So this fall I'm starting with my pre-reqs for nursing.
Someone of relation is a nurse and talks negative the whole time through my excitement of starting classes. Like he says, "nursing sucks", and let's see who can get their RN first. Like he hates nursing so much yet you want to go on for your RN. And now all of a sudden it seems like he wants to because I am going for my ADN. He's a A#*!@&l anyways so it's actually normal for him.
But yeah, I think, If I worked 7 days a week(no joke) I'd probably be hating my job too! And I do understand that it's hard to find a job these days but it is for any career choice! This actually just makes me want to do it TEN TIMES more and I want to do soo well in school that he's like "woah"!
A lot of times I think he's just really competitive because he also likes to talk about how much he makes $23 an hour as an LPN.
So anyways, I just don't understand people who want to put you down for what you want to do.
I guess this just was a little vent. And it helped.
forgot one other thing my aunt was just like what you described, she even went as far as to say well if u want to be a registered butt wiper! lol i think she just feels threatened because nursing has been her "thing" she has come around so hopefully he will too:nurse:

I have a "relation" like that, as well. She has been a nurse for almost 20 years and has always discouraged me from entering into nursing school or even taking pre-reqs, telling me that it would be too hard and I wouldn't like it anyway...etc. I let her get to me and held off on taking A&P for 2 years! I've already gotten 1 degree since then! If I would have just done what I wanted to then I would already be a nurse and employed by now, and I kick myself in the ass for it regularly. Anyway, finally I just signed up for the classes and haven't told her or any of my family other than my fiancé that I plan to go into nursing school because I don't need anyone holding me back or trying to tear me down. My stepmom is the one I am writing about. She is an RN and I'm sure she is very good at what she does, but even when her own HUSBAND was talking about going into the medical field she shot him down, saying that they only had enough money for one of them to go to school and she enrolled in (and later dropped out) of classes for her BSN. I don't get why she doesn't want other people in her life to have successful careers. HER daughter wants to be a nurse, and she is supportive of that to the extent where she's going to pay for it.

Trust me you're not kicking yourself as much as I have. I would have had my MSN a long time ago if I had stuck with nursing and would have been employed too. I never got discouraged from Nursing, it was my own fear that kept me away. Glad you're on your way.
