This is a detailed account of the night that I first learned that I passed the licensure exam. I know many nurses can relate to it. Nurses General Nursing Article

Congratulations!!!
Your story made me teary-eyed. I know the feeling of not having enough money to pursue something you want so desperatley and feeling like you might have to give up. I seem to go through it every semester.
Besides financial struggles, I also have a teenage son that will be home 4 nights a week without me (while I am at school/clinicals) and I feel guilty about that. But if I dont persevere, we will be in the same situation forever. I keep telling myself school is only temporary, and worth all the sacrifices.
The moment you describe when you realized your 'nightmare' was a reality is one I hope to experience someday soon. :)
Best of luck to you in your career!

Wonderful!!!!
I remember back in the dark ages when I took boards. We sat in a hugh room for two days, all day, taking paper and pencil exams. I really did not study much. I figured that if I did not know it by then, I would never know it. In those days the boards were taken in sections.... pedi, OB, Med surg and psych. The good thing was that if you flunked just one section, that was all you had to retake. Everyone walked out of the exam thinking they were going to have to retake at least part of the exam.
I recall that on my drive to Austin to sit for the boards I had a car accident. It was raining and it ran into the back of a POLICE CAR. That, of course, added a bit of extra stress.
In those days of course there were no computers or internet. All we had was snail mail. The situation was: If you got a large brown envelope then you passed because it contained your official nursing license it in. A large nursing certificate stating that you were officially an RN. If you got a regular white envelope, the news was bad. You failed the test. It took 6 weeks to get results. As the time neared we all watched our mailboxes with great dread. Then one day my mom and I were going shopping. As we left the driveway, she got out to get the mail and she pulled this large brown envelope out of the box. We both started crying, even before we opened it. It was over. No more school, no more tests... I had made it. I was finally an RN.
