I'm in the process of trying to figure out the best way to get to my goal of becoming a nurse. I've been looking at doing the online A&P course from Lake Superior College, and I was wondering if anyone here has ever done it. If so, have you had any trouble getting the credits to transfer? Or, if you've done any online A&P classes from any school, have you had any trouble transferring credit? It's a fully accredited school; all the labs are done at home (you have to buy a kit). I appreciate your comments!

Northern Virginia Community College also offers A&P online (BIO 141 and 142). These NVCC credits have transferred to UVA without a problem.

When in doubt, contact the schools directly that you plan to apply to and to see what they will accept.

Check with the school that you are transferring to and make sure they will accept the course before you take it.
The correct place to get this information is the registrar's office..not the advisor. The registrar is who makes the decision.
At my school, specifically for the health sciences department, they will not take an online course transfer for A&P and it must be a "live lab" however it will transfer as a science for other majors...just not health sciences.
Other posters have posted their schools took it with no problem.
That is why you need to check.
Thanks for your answers. However, it's now a moot point. The class I was looking at has filled up. In addition, the NVCC class, which I have no doubt would transfer, since it would be to another Virginia CC, requires proctored exams, which I just can't do. So, I guess it doesn't really matter.

Just to let you know, you do have a couple of options. If you were looking at an online class that has filled up, you could contact the instructor to get special permission to add over and beyond the limited number of students. Secondly, if you watch, there will more than likely be a few students to drop the class within the first week. Hope this helps. I do not know if the credits for online A&P will transfer and agree that to call the school you are applying to would be the best advice. Good Luck...

Also, in terms of NVCC, the proctored exams don't need to be taken at NVCC. They can be proctored at a site in your geographical area. I don't know if that will make a difference in your situation, but mentioning it just in case.

Also, it probably makes sense to think through the education path you'll be taking for nursing. Since nursing is a hands-on profession, nursing school will require lectures and labs in traditional classrooms, plus clinicals at hospitals/nursing homes, etc. If you have issues now with commuting to a college campus, you'll need to resolve those issues before you start nursing school.
Many schools also want you to take A&P and other pre-reqs as close to your start date in nursing school as possible. While the nursing school where I'm starting in January '10 accepted my college Ethics and Philosophy classes I took years ago in college, I had to go back and re-take inorganic chemistry because it had been (way) more than 5 years since I'd originally taken the class.
Best of luck! Getting through your pre-reqs and admission to nursing school can be pretty stressful, but kind of exciting, too.
