Hi y'all! Anybody taking A&P 1 this coming spring semester? I'm trying to get as many pre-req's out of the way as possible and could use a study buddy or 2! Thanks! :)
Hey guys. Haven't had much time lately, so haven't posted in a LONG while. With working full-time as a social worker--oh so very demanding--taking this class, and occasionally trying to take care of myself (i.e. exercise) I haven't had much time on my hands).
I had been doing pretty well in this class until....the brain and spinal cord!!! You would think I would like this stuff given that my first degree was in Psych., but it there was sooo much material, and I felt like I didn't really understand it well enough to memorize it. Anyway, I got a 75% on our lecture pop quiz (only worth 2% of our overall grade, but still! Ouch!). Then I took the lecture test this past Monday, and it was brutal! I studied just as hard for this test as I did for any previous test, but the questions were so nit-pickey (as one guy in our class said, she tested on "minutia") that I just didn't know several of them, and had to guess. I'm really worried about it now. I'll probably get my grade tomorrow or the next day, but right now, I'm freakin' out! I had an "A" up until this point, and I don't want to lose it, and ultimately make myself vastly less competitive for the nursing program.
Ah well...I guess all that can be done now is to try to pull a good grade on the remaining practical and lecture exam. Speaking of which, can someone help me out? There is a question on our lab practical study guide that says "list and understand the importance of the meninges). I can list them, but I don't know what their individual importance is. Can someone help me?!
Thanks!

I don't know a whole lot about their individual importance either, but I do know that they play an role in the blood-brain barrier (particularly the arachnoid mater, I believe), and CSF circulates in the subarachnoid space. Also, the pia mater continues on down the spinal cord past the arachnoid and dura to form the filium terminale. The dura mater is mainly the outer casing that protects and holds everything in. Hope this helps and good luck!
Wow!
Just a bit of bragging here- I JUST got my final grade back from A&P1 and I got an A!! I'm so excited- it's especially nice since this course has been so hard and overwhelming at times.
If you've been following this you may know that about half way through the year I realized that nursing is not an idea career for me for physical reasons. I've decided that next year I'm going back to school to do my BSci in biology because A&P1 has been so cool!
good luck everybody- I hope it goes really well.

Good job, that's really awesome! I hope you enjoy the rest of your science classes as much as you've enjoyed A&P!
On a side note, I got my final grade back for A&P Lab (which is a separate class at my school) and I got an A!!! Keeping my fingers crossed that I get an A in lecture as well!
