A&P2 and microbiology

Hello,

I'm currently finishing up A&P1 during the summer course. I was planning on take no A&P2 in the fall and micro in the spring. it was brought to my attention that I could take a&p2 and micro together for whatever reason I thought you had to take one before the other. Has anyone taken both of these classes together? Is it doable? Thanks for your input.

Well I guess you COULD but why would you want to? I took A/P 2 in the summer, back in the day. When I took Micro, I took it with Med-surg 2 and statistics. Ha-HA-HA yeah, don't do that either. I think your original plan is sound.

Thanks for your responses! A couple girls are taking them together and I thought maybe I should. I was going to take A&P2 and anthro and then during the spring public speaking and micro. I have already taken statistics thank goodness that was torture then again math is not my thing.

That's my plan for Spring, but throw in a Chem II class.

I took them together, it's actually a great for because sometimes the material crosses over for both subjects. I got A's in both without much stress.

I took them both and failed the first time....THEN I took them individually and passed both. One B+ and one C.

I think you'll be fine, especially considering it's a normal semester. I took two courses at once during a compressed schedule and it was REALLY tough, but I still got A's. I'm taking micro and bio or chem next semester, so I sure hope two sciences is doable! I think it is though, and I work full time. You'll be good.

I took them together and got As in both... but everyone is different. You're in the best position to know. While we know what the material is like, we don't know how *you* will handle the material

Not really answering your question but wast A&P1 tough? I'm taking it this fall after about a two year break from school, so a little nervous!

Our instructors told us that thru their evidence-based research at our particular school, those who took A&P2 and micro together tended to earn a full letter grade lower in both courses. So, if you're an A student, you may be able to pull out two Bs. But if you are a B or C student, you are walking a fine line and risk failing or having your GPA drop too low to be able to qualify for a nursing program.

If they were the only 2 classes that you needed in order to start, then I think it might be worth the risk to get started sooner. But since you have other Gen-Ed that you need to finish up still, I think it's better to pair one science with other (easier) gen-ed each semester and take them separately.

And, yes, the pre-req sciences are hard, but they do a great job at training you and preparing you for your nursing program, which is an entirely different beast!

I think it would depend on how quickly you want to finish your pre reqs. For me, taking ap2 and micro in different semesters would have added one whole extra semester before I can apply to the nursing program. So for me, it wasn't an option. That being said, taking these two classes together will be a doozy for sure. Not only are they two hard classes, but it's adding on the two additional labs that accompany them. I am also taking two other classes in addition to this so I would advise you to look at your schedule as a whole and weigh in how quickly you want to get done vs how stressed you want your life to be. If time isn't a factor for you I would not suggest taking those two classes together unless you are absolutely positive you think you can get above average grades in both. It will be a huge time commitment especially if you're taking other classes as well. Good luck!
