A&P 1, microbio, & psychology

Published

OR... A&P 1, chemistry 1, & psychology?

I am wondering is it do-able with a very part time job (self-employed)? I wasn't that sharp in high school with sciences but that's because I was incredibly irresponsible at the time, on top of having mediocre teachers.

Trying to figure out how I should pair what I have left because I'm done with all my other general education courses. I have the sciences left and I want to maintain a full-time school schedule.

Your opinions?

Thanks in advance!!

I was thinking of taking A&P I, English, Sociology, & psychology this semester, and those are all four of the preclinical requirements I need. I may be able to apply to the spring clinical program, as opposed to waiting for the fall. I haven't been in school for five years (I went to Rutgers), so I'm not sure if all of that is a good idea or not? It's either that or switch A&P and take French II, and I am fluent in that so it will be pretty easy.

If I do take those preclincals all this semester, I have to get at least a 3.0 to even be considered for clinical. I also would need to take the entrance exam in late October.

What does everyone think? Go for it or save A&P for next semester, and since I'll have my other three preclinical classes out of the way I could take light classes to concentrate on it, or do it all in one swing? I'm so torn! LOL.

I wouldn't take all that with A&P 1. I just stepped out of the advisors office and instead of taking two sciences at once I'm going to do A&P1 with psychology, since I've already taken a psychology class in the past it won't be so bad. They don't recommend piling up classes. The summer term is 8 weeks here so I'm thinking of pulling microbio solo then... Which is really iffy but I'm just going to have faith in myself to do it.

I've already taken A&P I anc Chm this summer. Each were both 5 week classes (eeek, so hard!) But I pulled off A's in both, so it's possible! I personally don't recommend doing more than 1 science at a time, not because it's impossible but because it's a bit easier to concentrate with just one at a time. OP, I like your schedule how it is now!

I did both my a&p classes at night. It helped to handle the schedule of two lab classes. The teacher sucked, but I didn't go crazy.

Is anyone a pre nursing student at a community college? ??

How are you dealing with the prereqs and preparring for the teas

Same here.. I kind of screwed myself over by leaving sciences last. Had I paired them with my other classes I would have finished. Now I'm stuck taking 1 each semester.

We take the Kaplan. Not sure how similar it is to the TEAS.

I'm pre-nursing at a community college. Pre-reqs I did at night/online (paired science with non-science until I had two sciences left, did Chem over the summer, Micro is my last one this fall).

I will say that how I would pair the science classes totally depends on the professors. Ratemyprofessors.com has become my lifeline, lol. You can never really know how you'll do with a certain professor, but hearing others' experiences will give you some idea of what they are like and whether you'll mesh. For that reason alone I think it's worth it to take a science over the summer if you can find a good prof and get it over with.

If you are trying to get this done by the end of next spring, I (tentatively) recommend pairing Psych with A & P and then doing Micro and Chem together. A & P (for me) was muuuuuuch harder than Chem and Micro because of all the memorization. Chem was easier because once I had certain formulas/processes/etc. memorized, I didn't have to worry too much, just do some practice. A & P took much longer for me to get the hang of. I can't speak for Micro yet, but I've heard that with the right professor it is a blast and not too hard at all.

But again, if you have the option of taking a course over the summer next year, I would seriously take it. I did Chem in eight weeks and it was pretty tolerable. I found a good professor, and we ended up eliminating/combining some labs so the workload wasn't too awful. It was still fast-paced and I was on campus three nights per week, but the freedom to concentrate on only one class made it much easier to concentrate and learn what I needed to. I'm sure that could be generalized to other science courses, although I'd be terrified to do A & P over the summer.

Oh, and as for admissions tests, I am taking the Hesi Evolve something-or-other. I am avoiding studying for it right now! :-P I do not envy those taking the TEAS; I hear my exam is a bunch easier. I'll let y'all know how it goes so you can learn from my procrastination.

So just to give everyone a heads up and future students that might stumble across this forum...

I ended up taking A&P I + Lab, and Psychology... I ended up doing just fine with 101% average in both A&P1 Lab and lecture... 100 on Psychology (taken online.)

On that note, could I have done Microbiology with A&P1, probably, but let me tell you I was non-stop studying to pull that average, so if I could go back time and take both together, I would say NO WAY. Better to take these courses separate with 1 or 2 less intensive classes. And if you totally have to do a science in the summer do that class only. Don't pair with anything else or you'll be pulling your hairs out!! Haha!

Also, I'm a previous art major. I always felt I wasn't smart enough to tackle science courses... I guess I should give myself more credit. So if that sets an example, you can definitely do these classes but you need to study day in and day out.

On a more personal note, I actually enjoyed the class and found huge interest in it. If you take it and find that it's a total snooze-fest, you might want to reconsider the path you're taking! Good luck to future A&P I students!!!

i took a&p 1, micro, psychology, and lit last semester and found the course load very manageable.

Best of luck.
