Hi! I've been a lurker for a while, but just now joined since I'm starting on my prereqs this summer. For background, I have a B.A. in History (2004) and I'm finishing up a Masters in Education (adult training and learning) this semester. I'm applying for both an Accelerated BSN program and an entry level MS-CNL program. For the BSN program, the application date is July 1st , so I'm going to have to crunch to get in three more prereqs by then. I'm planning on taking A&P 1, Microbiology, and Stats online this summer through a local community college. Am I being too ambitious?
Online, especially if the testing is as well.
If it's your first I'd go AP + Stats, and leave Micro and AP II for Fall.
It can be done, some people just don't have the time or dedication to make it happen. Don't listen to the naysayers, I took 16 hours the first semester and taking 18 the second.
Fall 07: AP I + Lab, Nutrition, Sociology, Human Growth, and College Algebra - 3.93 GPA, all A's, B in AP Lab
Winter 08: AP II + Lab, Micro + Lab, Chem + Lab, Statistics, Art - All A's so far.
Do you think you can do it? Are you willing to forsake all social events and make school first? It can be done, just because some people can't, doesn't mean you can't.
How long is your summer session? We have 5-week and 8-week sessions, but it may be different at other schools / universities. If your school / university does it like that, then I think that' s waaaay too much for the summer.
I'm currently taking A&P II (+ lab), Intro to General / Organic / Biochemistry II & Microbiology (+ lab) all at once this semester and I think it's A LOT and this semester is 15 weeks. Don't stress yourself out TOO much!
I would not do any more than one of any of theses classes in the summer; I took anatomy and stats with an art class and that was douable, I also took micro; organic, organic, and bio-chem; and human development in another semester, both semesters double...but in the summer...no way no how! (nd I was not working)

to add to this:
Micro, Physio and Anatomy are all important classes...just how much information will you retain if you cram through these courses? You WILL use this information in your nursing courses, these classes are not just hoops to jump though to get into nursing school; sadly so many people think this way. Taking your time now will benefit you when you are in nursing school. On a side note, all of the students in my BSN program had all A's in their pre-requs...if you rush through these courses and "just pass" you will have next to no chance of getting into a program that does a point system, your only hope of getting into a nursing program would be a ASN that has a lotto system and their wait lists are generally a few years out.

Don't do it - you'll waste your money and your time. A&P I and Stats are difficult during a long semester - especially if you're just starting back to school. I'd say take one summer class and see if you're still alive after that. It doesn't matter how commited you are to getting through school. If you don't have the time to devote - full time to studying, run as fast as you can the other way - DON'T TAKE A&P I OR STATS IN THE SUMMER.
If you want to "get your feet wet" try taking ANYTHING other than a science or a Math class during summer. Just my two cents.
