Okay guys,
this might sound like a silly question, but what is it that goes on in Anatomy and Physiology labs? Like what kind of activities do you do in there? Just wondering, because I will be starting mine soon and am wondering what to look forward too. :)

It all depends on the school, instructor, etc.
You may be disecting (cat, pig's heart, brain, etc.), or you may just look and learn from plastic models. There may be plastic or real bones, or diagrams to learn from.
Histology is also learned.....different types of cells on slides, etc.
A&P is great, study hard, and learn all you can!
Good luck!

Like Fun2Care said models, slides, dissections, etc.
My A+P 1 lab was a lot more physiology then my A+P 2 lab... in fact I'd have to go out and say my A+P 2 lab is pure anatomy and almost laughable. The LONGEST I have ever been in A+P 2 lab is 1 hour..... my A+P 1 labs were 3 hours and we always were there the whole time. Tests included not only " name structure" but " name function, name secretion, define XXX, describe the process of XXX, etc etc etc.
Like I said my A+P I lab was 3 hours... I swear the first hour to hour 1/2 we were lectured ( and lectured AGAIN in lecture lol) and the rest was hands on.

My lab is a little different. If you signed up for the regular lab, you get to go in on some days for lecture/study of the plastic models. I'm lucky, becuase I got an instructor who made pictures of all the models, so we can study online, without going to class. The other classes are mostly experiments and/or dissections. I liked lab, except for the usual drag when your group finishes way before anyone else and you have to hang around until everyone else finishes. I guess we're just a bunch of overacheivers.

We also had to draw nice pictures of cells and other stuff.
And we did a LOT of labelling.

My class A+p I class was a lot of dissecting and It looks that way for A+P II . For a+p I I had to dissect a baby pig. One word of advice use a paper towel and rubber band it around the head. it makes it not as bad I hated looking at the poor things little face. A+P II we have to dissect another pig, sheeps brain and I think a Heart. Good Luck! :)

It does vary from school to school and instructor. This is what we so in A&P
Systems of the body:
skeletal, muscular, nervous, integumentary, enocrine, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive (male and female).
Mitosis and Meiosis
Also, the cell (organelles, composition, function of organelles)
Tissues, (slides under microscope and powerpoint)
Heredity and Disorders
Dissection of a fetal pig, frog, sheep's brain and cow eyeballs.
DNA extraction from strawberries
Learn the muscles and bones (with tendons and ligaments); models and diagrams and powerpoint slides. The professor borrowed one from Yale University (she works there as well) and took pictures and put them on a slide show.
Hope this gives you and idea :)

Our labs and lectures are 3.5 hours long each! :uhoh21: (gives the instructor plenty of time to whip out creative homework assignments :chuckle ).
Plus every week we have a lab report due (usually 5-8 pages long) has to be written in scientific form etc.
I love A&P though. It is a toughy because you feel confined to your books but it is nothing like Chem. :)

In my A+P labs we looked at and labeled lots of cells. We also Were tested on the bones of the human body- we had to know every one, as well as every muscle. We dissected a cat and a sheep brain.

I work as a lab assistant for A&P II at my school. We use a cadaver as well as buckets of organs from previous cadavers. Sometimes we get cow hearts from a local place and dissect them, but mostly it is labeling and identifying from the organs and plastic models. Most of the physiology is in the lecture portion.
