Hello! I'm a pre-nursing student who is currently taking A&P I in the 12 week spring session (I am doing well so far with an A in the class so far after my midterm), I am thinking about taking A&P II in the 6 week short summer session just so that I can apply for candidacy into the LPN program in my school which only accepts candidates during the Fall semester only. So this decision is pretty urgent for me. I really do not want to waste anymore time, I also have the other option to take this A&P II class in the summer at this school (since I bought it's books already) so that I can transfer to a 4 year BSN college for this upcoming Fall semester (which I am already accepted to). I have all my other prerequisites over with except for the A&P courses. So my main question is, is A&P II doable or recommended in the 6 week summer session? And any advice on my plans of action would be greatly appreciated!!!
It is doable. I took A&P 1, 2, and 3 all together in summer term (1 for 4 weeks, 2 for 4 weeks, and 3 for 3 weeks) in class, and took 6 more online credits. A&P 1 was the hardest for me because I do not have any science background. A&P 2 and 3 are not that difficult comparing 1. I did not work, but I was a single mother with two young boys. As long as you give up your summer(No TV, no online surfing, no movie, no drinking, no dating, no shopping except grocery, no SNS, no facebook), it will be fine.
Thank you for the feedback, now I feel like I'm just as willing. It's great hearing a positive experience from someone else! Might as well give these up for a summer in exchange for getting into the program!
I personally found A&P II to be more tedious than A&P I but if that's the only class your taking it shouldn't be tough to manage at all. I've taken harder classes while working part time and if you're a good memorizer it'll be a breeze. Good luck though!
Thank you so much! Right, do you have any tips on how to prepare for the short week? Should I read ahead to get a head start? I found the syllabus for my school online. And yeah I've heard other classes like microbio are a killer! I am only doing A&P 2 in the short semester and volunteering at a hospital on my day off from school.
No problemo :)
And really it depends on the professor, one of my professor based all her classes on slides so it was sufficient to study from them, but if there's one thing specific about summer classes it's that you should be dedicating some time to work everyday (esp if there's hw!). But if you're not sure I'd read the textbook for the first exam and then see the best way to study for next. I found A&P II to be more specific memorizing so I focused on things I was sure I was going to forget or mixed up. But again the biggest thing is staying on top of reading and hw and not letting it build up since you'll probably have less time to get acquainted with info before the exams.
I believe you can do it, if you are willing to pay the price, which is total commitment with minimal distractions. I did Microbiology over a one-month Summer class and i came out top. It is all about how you set your priorities. Both A&P I/II are demanding, but determination will make you succeed. Give it a try and if you do not like the outcome, you can do it again. All the best to you.
I'm in a similar situation where I have to decide if I can manage ANATOMY in an 8 week summer course.
Classes are from 530-10PM Mon-Thursday.... which means my only study/hw days would be Fri/Sat/Sun.
I do work full time at the moment with a significantly busy job as a Healthcare Transitions coach at a hospital M-F 8-5PM
People keep saying I should go for it and get it over with, however I'm finishing up PHYSIOLOGY which was a regular semester 16 weeks,
M 5-630 and W 5-9:30PM and the amount of work I had to complete throughout the week was killer. I have a 96% right now but it has taken a lot of devotion to keep it. So I'm a little nervous to try a compressed 8 week class and fail... REALLY can't afford to get anything other than an A in the course.
Anyone have experience working FULL TIME and havng such a heavy course at night?
PS - Yes i did take them in the opposite order because there were no seats available for the anatomy class this spring - So Instead of wasting 6 months of doing nothing i decided to just take physiology (A&PII equivalent) first. I was a physiology major in college so only retaking courses because they were 8 and 9 yrs old so the school wouldn't accept them.
I was thinking of attempting A&P2 over the summer so I could apply for the nursing program for fall 2016. Decided to wait and take A&P2 in the fall because I just want to enjoy the summer with my man and kids!
Instead, I decided to really focus on studying for the TEAS test this summer, because I still have to take that and my college offers a free review class online with one of the nursing professors. :)
Good luck in whatever you decide to do!
