Hi all,
I have to take A & P II in the summer and I am looking for feedback as to how different A & P is in the summer vs. the regular semester? Do you find that the failure rate is higher? I am a little worried, even though I'm a good student because if I don't pass, I lose my spot in the clinicals. Thanks for your comments.

If you are a disciple student, I think you can handle A&P 2 in the Summer. You just have to stay on top of your studying, dont procrastinate and stay focus. There are alot of students who do not pass A&P 2 in the regular semester. I am sure in the Summer, there are usually a lot more students because of the amount information in a shorter period of time. If you did well on the first A&P, I would not stress too much about not doing well. Good luck to you.
Thank you - feel better already!

I took my A&P class in the summer. It was a condensed A&P class-- that is, instead of taking 2 semesters of A&P, at my school, they cram both semesters into one class/one semester and give you more credit hours for it. So, I ended up taking an entire year of A&P during the summer along with Microbiology that same summer, and also worked on top if it. I got A's in both. Other students failed one or the other (different set of students in each class). It's all in how bad you want it. It CAN be done.
I will say that taking A&P over the summer is pretty intense. I had at least one exam and one practical a week, sometimes more- they seemed to roll right into each other. I spent every waking hour studying and managing my time between work and the 2 classes. I will say one thing, though: after the class is done, keep your book around and brush up again before you start the nursing program, because you may forget some of the info after cramming it in so quickly. I went over things a second time, and it really helped. Good luck to you.
That is the craziest schedule I have ever heard of! I'm so impressed and inspired, and congratulations! I expect it to be hard. But now that I have heard from people who have made it - I feel so much better. Thanks so much. Elena
Thanks- tough but very much worth it. If you can and haven't already, I would say to start memorizing the bones/skeleton and the muscles BEFORE you start the class because the memorization for those 2 systems was the most time-intensive for me. I got one of those coloring books (by Kaplan) and used it to fill in the blanks and quiz myself rather than using it to actually color in. It was very helpful. If you get those bones and muscles down beforehand, you will already be ahead

I took A&P I during the semester...easy to me because I love it, got an A.
I took A&P II during the summer...easier, perhaps due to instructor (chiropractor) who required very little...or maybe because i loved it as well, got an A.
If I had to compare the two, I believe taking it during the semester was more challenging because we took more tests (easy to slack off)...during the summer we had fewer exams with more information on each. (stayed on top of things more because of increased pressure to do well)

I took A&P I during a summer session (~4hrs/day, 4days/week, 4 weeks) and got an A. It was just a lot of information very fast. If you have healthy study habits, you should be okay!

I agree with what everyone is saying, as long as you stay on top of the studying it's not so bad. I took A&P I during the summer and A&P II during a regular semester, I really enjoyed the summer schedule better. I think with the added pressure of the condensed course I stayed on track better and really kept up with my studying habits. Good luck! :)

It's not that big of a deal...I had no probs with it and that was with a teacher switch off in the middle of it and an infant at home. If you don't have to worry about work or children it will be a breeze.
Only problem is that you really won't learn nearly as much as you would in a normal semester. So much is crammed so fast that you don't remember much, AND you don't go into as much detail as you normally would either. Reminds me of someone's wise sig here in the forums "a degree isn't the same as an education."
Amen to that.
I personally took the second half over again at a school with a rep for being hard to get through...just so I could get the quality education that I felt I deserved. I am so very glad that I did that, as it has helped me through many areas of the nursing program already.
Not to say you won't be ok with just the Summer session...but you're going to need to do a lot more studying once it's over to get both the bigger picture and the details. If not, be prepared for an even heavier load once you get into a program...and trust me...there's enough studying going on here already :wink2:
