A&P II Club! Come on in!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Who all is taking A&P 2 ? Is there going to be a club?

Well, I just had my test. It was a lot harder than my last one! It had more stuff about diseases on it, which I just kinda glossed over. I hate it when I study the wrong things.

I bet you did just fine. Rule of thumb in these classes is KNOW EVERYTHING!

Especially if the teacher isn't clear about what will be on the tests....

Good luck and I keep my fingers crossed for you.

Naming it after themselves, :rotfl: Isnt that a "full of themselves" attitude. You are probably right.

My take on this is the following: In science many things are named after the people who discovered or were involved in developing things...I think your question is related to the QRS detection Algorithm by Pan J and Tompkins. P for Pan and T for Tompkins. Maybe you could research more under Bio Medical Engineering :wink2:

The sequence is P QRS T, this stuff will come up for us next. Maybe my smart teacher knows more, I'll ask

In the meantime I will continue riding the WW wave.

That theory shows a lot of thought, but the naming of EKG components goes way, way back. Einthoven named the components in the late 19th century. No one knows the reason for PQRST with any certainty. A couple of popular theories:

- Einthoven was heavily influenced by the work of Rene Descartes, 17th century philosopher and mathematician, who used P to name the first point on a given curve. The rest of the letters just followed naturally.

- Einthoven thought PQRST was good because they are close to the middle of the alphabet, allowing room for additions later. (The U wave was in fact discovered before long.)

Wow, great info, thanks....we all will be the most informed and educated nurses thanks to this board :wink2:

:lol2: Haven't had a good laugh this early in the a.m. for a while

Maybe we can have a " funniest named after themselves" contest...I can't think of anything right off....

Does anyone know of a good animation that shows how bloodpressure works?

I've been trying to find stuff online but have not been successful.

Thanks in advance :wink2:

Specializes in none yet.

i am takin a & p 2 currently at glendale community college in arizona and think it is awesome. we are learning about the heart and all the fun things that come along with that. i find this course easier than a &p 1 cuz i learned my ways of studying for the lab practicles and lecture exams. I cheat......not really but i video tape the labs and watch it a few times before the lab prac. i am the only one who i see doing this, the instructor doesnt mind...but why doesnt anyone else do it?!? do any of you?

OMG...I can just see myself coming in there with a camcorder....and everybody WHINING!!!!! I think some are already nervous about the taperecording which is ok in my class. Videotaping may not be allowed in my school, I am not sure what the policy is on that one.

Most of them in my class would probably like to see me dead anyhow...I ahvae the highest grade and I am foreign and may make it into nursing school before they do.....one student in particular was rude to me for the second time since classes started. All I can say is that I have my cellphone near and I know how to call 911 should anyone assault me.

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

Eric -- Thanks for that great information!! That is very cool :)

As for my test, I didn't do so hot. I'm still not sure what I made because she hasn't graded my essay questions, but lemme just say that my scantron had too much red on it :(

I am sorry you didnt do as well as you wanted to. When you get the tests back and go over them, look at it real good and try to make note of what the instructor tests over. (notes, material in the book,or something else that was used. Then for the next tests, focus on that. Dont get discouraged. Hang in there.

So, how is everyone doing?

We were off on Monday and since we missed he was on fire today :angryfire and flew through the lab material and lecture material with super sonic speed.

For our next lab test we need to know major arteries and veins of the body, fetal circulation. We will also have to identify bloodvessels in the fetal pig which we will start working with next Monday. Once again, lots of memorization. We started the chapter on bloodvessels in lecture also.

Good luck everyone....1/3 of the grade is pretty much done.

Oh, man. We are studying the veins and arteries also, but we dont get to do any disecting.
