A & P 1 Fall 2008

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Ok, a thread like this is inevitably started every semester and since I just got home from registering I thought I'd take the opportunity to start the thread for this coming Fall. Who's with me and what other classes will you be taking, if any. Aside from A & P 1 I'm taking sociology....

Good Luck everyone!!!!:yeah:

I will be taking A& P 1 w/ lab in the Fall plus French 1. I only have 7 classes left before I apply to my BSN program. And I should be getting in, in the spring of 2010... It seems like so long away... :( But I know that it's not! I can't wait to get going on the last few classes. Anyone taking anything over the summer? I'm looking at taking Intro to Stats, Chem 101, Eng Comp 2, and Western Civ 1. But I may be dropping the Chem and taking it this coming Spring w/ A&P 2... But I dunno. Any thoughts?

I'm about to transfer to UDM in Michigan in the fall and this Fall I'm taking

A&P 1, Organic Chemistry, Intro to Sociology (required for nursing program), a basic computer class (required too - but Soo easy sounding!), and intro to philosophy (pre-req for ethics & ethics is required for nursing program).

I'm really scared because I've never taken much Biology past high school (I'm in a rather easy bio class right now called Study of Infectious Diseases) and I know A&P is hard - plus I was told by my advisor that Organic/Bio Chemistry is the class that 'makes or breaks' pre-nursing students. I've gotten an A in Chem 101 so far but I think I did bad on my last test, so I just don't know. :uhoh21: She also warned me that the philosophy can be hard too.

Does anybody think this course load is too heavy? I'll confess I'm pretty scared, but my advisor and I both agree that I should try and take enough pre-reqs so I can apply for the nursing program in Fall of 2010.

I'm really scared :uhoh3: so I'd love any advice or thoughts any one has about my course load! :nuke:

I for one think that this is wayyy to many credits to be taking... My count was 17 credit hours? That is a lot. Especially considering that you have two hard science classes at the same time... Well I've never taken organic chem but I've heard that it's hard. why are you taking so many credits? Do they only have one session a year? ie Every Fall or what? I have 8 classes to take and the class that I'll be eligible to enter will be in Spring of 2010. When is your cutoff to apply for the Fall of 2010 program? Also, why does your adviser say that organic/bio chem is the class that 'makes or breaks' pre-nursing students??? I mean heck A&P and Micro are very hard courses and not that Organic chem isn't hard, but I don't know that it's harder than those classes... Just my two cents. :twocents: Please provide some more enlightenment on your situation. And good luck with getting accepted for the fall of 2010! :yeah:

i will be taking

Thank you so much for your response! You are right about it being 17 credit hours. I actually think it is a lot of work - especially given that I have to get basically all As. The thing is I actually mistyped when I said I was applying to the nursing program in the Fall of 2010 - I meant to say I will be applying in 2009. You are also right in assuming that they only admit for the nursing program in the Fall.

I've taken all the necessary math, psychology, english, and I'm taking Chem 101 right now. So my advisor and I figured out that if I take A&P 1 & Organic Chem. in the fall of this year, and A&P 2 in the winter, and then take Microbio in the summer (I have to take Microbio after A&P 1 &2) and take ethics and intro to sociology sometime during those three quarters, I will be eligible for the nursing program in 09. Still I am thinking I will at least drop the intro to philosophy -since I hear its actually pretty hard.

You might be wondering why I don't just take a few less credits and apply in 2010 - well the reason is my advisor told me 2009 is the last year that they will be accepting students into the program who are already in the college before applicants from elsewhere. What this means is that in 2010 I would be competing with students who have 4.0 GPA and couldn't get into a community college for space reasons.

I have a 3.93 GPA now but with such hard classes ahead of me there is a definite chance I could get a B :uhoh21: and then I definitely wouldn't be chosen in 2010. - I'm being realistic :(

So basically I have take ALL these hard classes practically at once

I'm pretty scared (to say the least lol) so I'd love any advice you have! :nuke:

I am taking A/P 1 this fall. This summer I am going to self study Psychology and CLEP it before class starts in the fall. WAAAYYYY cheaper and I don't have to sit through it. Then, this fall I will also self study sociology..CLep it, and History 1 and clep it. I took History 2 this spring and my instructor was IMPOSSIBLE but I have a 4.0 in spite of him. LOL. I am working on the final right now and it's as if he thinks it's the ONLY class in the world anyone is taking. 8 new chapters of notes AND info we have had al semester. This has been my experience through-out previous years of school, though. They all seem like you have no life outside of their class. I have 2 kids and run a grooming business so I am BUSY and too scared to sign up for more than one hard class per semester. I took Med Term online this semester and it was a joke. REALLY easy A. (THank GOD) All the tests (2 a week) were open book and I didn't learn a thing, but it wasn't a required class anyway. Just an easy A. If you take it..do it online. I will take A/P 2 in the spring and Micro next summer as well as any GPA boosters I need to retake to get into school. I have a few classes I screwed around in 10 years ago that brought my gpa to the floor. (DUH) :nono:

I found a website that helps with A & P-

:yeah:

Hopes this helps both me and any one else taking A & P during the summer

Hey ya'll, I'm Amanda. I introduced myself in a previous post.

I soooo wish I could buy my textbook this Summer and read to my heart's content. But my financial aid that covers textbooks doesn't come in for a while. Bummer. Oh well. I did take A&P last year (my senior year of high school) so I should know the very very very basic stuff, but still. I would love to get an idea of what I'm in for this Fall.

A&P is sooooo interesting to me though! I know it's going to be a ton of work but the human body just fascinates me! Lol. I never knew I had an interest in that until my senior year A&P class in high school. So glad I took that class... I sort of fell into it by accident!

Anyway, is anyone studying up over Summer? Anyone else semi-excited like me? Lol. I'm nervous about the workload but very excited to become more knowledgable in A&P.

Hi everyone. I've been on this board for about 3 months now and this is my very first post.

My name is Lynn and I'm taking A&P 1 this summer along with College Algebra and I'll be taking A&P 2 and microbiology in the fall. Scary, but exciting!

I came back to college after a 26 year "break". LOL. It's scary coming back after so long, but I am doing fine. By the end of the Fall semester I should have all my pre-reqs and all the general courses done!

Nice to meet everyone and I promise I'll be more active on the boards. I need the moral support!

Lynn

hey my name is amber and i'm new to allnurses. i will be taking a&p1 this fall. i am taking it alone because there are so many people that don't pass it the first time. so i'm not looking to waste any time, i am wanting to get into nursing school asap. i have all of my pre-reqs except for a&pi and ii! so i am hoping to be in next fall, but of course there is a waiting list so who knows when it will be! lol!

I am so excited to start the class as well! I am hoping to buy the books early to get a start on it. I believe we get our book list at orientation in July, so I am exctied! My husbands thinks I am nuts for being so exctied, but I don't care:yeah::yeah:
