A&P Coloring Book

is it worth it to get one? if you use/used one, how do you rate its usefulness? do you consider it a must have study aid?

i'm doing great in a&p so far, but i'm always looking for stuff to enhance my studying.

if you found it useful, which one did you use?

I like flashcards because they were easier to throw in my purse and study during short down times, like on the bus or waiting in line.

It's also a nice break from reading 100+ pages a week.

Thats what is appealing to me. I like to switch up and do other things other than reading. These other things seem to be working for me so I'm always looking for something to enhance my studying. I switch from reading, to watching videos, animated tutorials, doing puzzles, labeling and other interactive tutorials. So far I'm maintaining my A so it seems to be helping. I'll see if the coloring book is something that adds to my learning. If it does not then I'll scrap it. Seeing things visually instead of just reading the words seem to help the info stick.

Whether it is worth it or not depends mostly on how you learn. Some people remember what they hear much better than what they see and vs vs, some do best when they do something rather than just seeing or hearing. Everyone benefits from getting information in more their weaker forms as well as their stronger form. But with only 24 hours in a day, it may only be worth the time if it hits one of your stronger forms.

I'm very weak in the auditory, moderate in kinetic, and very strong in the visual. Listing to a taped lecture, for example, does me little good but the coloring books are a good fit.

I thought about buying the coloring book when I took A&P1 but the instructor was more helpful with giving us handouts and websites to study from. Now that I'm in A&P2, my instructor is the complete opposite. He basically just reads the text outload and spends more time talking about random information (that isn't tested) than teaching us the material. Yet we are expected to know everything for the exams!!! I broke down this semester and bought the coloring book. It's helpful but I'd rather make my own flashcards and study from them than the coloring book. In addition to its contents having 3 times more information then I need to know, it doesn't contain a lot of arteries and veins(for example) that I do need to know. IMHO don't buy it if your current studying practices are working out for you and I agree with a lot of the posts that it is a waste of time.

I agree!!!

I like the idea of using every possible option for studying. I am a visual learner, and I think the coloring book is a great idea. I am not sure that I will color it, but maybe even copy the pictures to repeatedly quiz myself.

I think using lots of different methods is what makes it stick. As a matter of fact...I just ordered mine yesterday on Amazon....!!! I spent like 15 bucks on mine....not a bad investment in my opinion....

I also found this website which is AWESOME AWESOME.... you must check it out!!

Girls typically are better visual learners; boys have a tendency to be more auditory or kinesthetic learners. I have a MA in Special Ed and taught it for 7 years and found this to usually be the case. Not always but as I said...usually. Very helpful for teaching...and learning... if you incorporate all the modalities.

The Marieb A & P Coloring Workbook is REQUIRED for both A & P I and II (hybrid;lecture Online, labs at the school; CC classes). It is part of our lab grade. All the answers are in the back of the book...but it does seem to help with remembering some of the information. It's also a nice break from reading 100+ pages a week.

If they're required for your classes, well then by all means buy them and use them.

They were not useful for me at all, however I am a very strong auditory and pretty strong kinesthetic learner.

I found making flash cards and teaching...well anyone who would listen the material. I taught info to room mates, cats, stuffed animals...didn't matter :-) If I can explain it out loud...I remember it.

But, you need to see what will work for you. Maybe you could find a classmate that has a coloring book and photocopy a few pages to see if it's useful for you. It would just be nice to know how useful it will be before spending money.
