A&P and Chemistry online - Ivy Tech

U.S.A. Indiana

I am retaking both A&P 1 & 2 to raise my points for the LPN to RN transition program since I didn't get in for this summer. I figured since I already took them as well as went through all the LPN courses (old curriculum) at Ivy Tech and passed boards it shouldn't be too bad for me and might just be review. I am registered for A&P 101 face to face this summer but am considering switching to on-line. I wondered how they did the lab portion though. The section I am looking at is not a hybrid class. I have taken other on-line courses (Eng, Psych, Comm-got As) and enjoyed them so it wouldn't be new to me. I understand what it entails.

I would appreciate any input. Is one class easier on-line than the other? I thought A&P102 was much easier than 101 face to face but then 101 was one of the first classes I took when going back to school 4 years ago & took it in the Summer as well - I am a lot different student now. By the way, I took those classes before I was certain I would continue to get my RN so the grades weren't that important at the time (I got Bs). I plan to take A&P 102 and Chem 101 Fall 09 and am considering online then too.

Any details & input would be greatly appreciated.

Jen,

I have a different instructor (J.G.) and I've emailed her. I'm just waiting to hear back. Are you taking the 8 week course? I was going to take that class with J.W. but instead decided on the 16 week course.

Taranator, did you get my PM about the lab book?

Yes, I did, csab! I can't reply back. I think it's because I don't have enough posts? I'm sorry I haven't replied back on here, it's been a little crazy around here the past few days.

A friend of mine ended up sending a pdf copy of the lab manual. Would that be the same one?

I'm not sure, but probably.

I didn't know you can't reply to PM's without 15 posts LOL. I thought it was just that you couldn't initiate one.

I looked for a reply button or something and couldn't find one. Maybe it's just me dorking it out. LOL.

Can anyone help me I can't afford books from bookstore for 101 . What is the course compass code and where do u buy it from. What is pearson media card and science lab kit

Sweetnursenikki--Are you taking 101 online? I don't know what a "Pearson media card" is, I didn't have to have that when I took online 101. I believe if you buy a new 8th edition textbook it should come with a course compass access code. Course Compass is an online site tied in with Pearson (publisher) that you go to for chapter reviews, practice activities, and practice quizzes which are VERY useful. Also a few of your weekly labs are accessed through links found at the Course Compass site. Now, some people are saying that they've emailed their profs and have asked if they can buy a used 7th edition of the textbook and have been told yes; but I would assume then you also need a Course Compass code for the older edition, which you used to be able to purchase online right through the Pearson/Course Compass website for about $80. Now, though, with the new edition of the textbook, I wonder if you could still purchase a code for the older edition. ??? That would be something to check into. Because you definitely want to have access to those practice quizzes in Course Compass--they will help with the exams in a MAJOR way.

The lab kit for at home was pretty much unneeded in my opinion. But you can find lots of them on sale on craigslist.

I am taking it online terre haute is the lab kit the same for 101 and 102.

No, the lab kits are not the same. I didn't even buy the lab kit for 102.

I was trying to figure out what the Media Card was too. I still don't know, but I guess we will find out Monday. I did not buy the lab kit either, I am trying to get by with the bare minimum. If it becomes a necessity I will purchase it then.

Hey jen are u taking your class online

Yes, online out of Terra Haute, but with J.W. as the instructor.
