why me

Published

oh where do I start?....

Im so frustrated and stressed out I dont even really know how to put it into words, but I'll try.

I worked at a LTC for 7 months they originaly hired me for tx nurse for fri-sun 12 hour shifts. They mainly trained me for tx nurse with a sprinkle of med nurse just incase. then after two months they told me I had to sign a verification sheet stating I know ALL company procedures and if I didnt they couldnt schedule me anymore. So I signed it. then things started to change next thing i know they were scheduling me to do only med pass and of course this is a place that writes you up for everything. I had a personal inservice on remebering to fax things and to remember to cirle intials if not having done something from the MARS or TARS (by the way this is my first time working in a LTC and had only been a LPN for just under a year, and had only worked in Dr offices) ok so I goofed I admit it, and we move on.

so months later a pt was sent to the hospital for whatever reason (obviously cannot give details) after a change in status the hospital sent this pt back the next day in the same condition they were sent in, and of course I got to do the admission during the dinner med pass (AWSOME.... ok not really) so anyways the CNA arrives back with the pt and said she fell asleep on the ride back, so we put the pt to bed, did vitals BP was low but that was common for this pt when sleeping (we even bothered the pt to make sure they were still concious and yes they were, we both got slapped at) I called the physician and told them that this pt was back in the same condition and asked for oxygen( the physician told me to call and leave a message at his office as a reminder for him to come visit the pt), so and I continued on with putting the chart together and documenting blah blah blah, the next nurse comes in and proceds to jump allover me about the garbage in the cart not changed and I told her as soon as I was done I would change the bag (clearly it wasnt a good enough answer for her) so she comes over to get report I tell her about the pt that came back and she proceds to go into a frinzy saying im trying to kill the pt cause the pt was the same as they were when they were sent out. so she calls the dr again and askes to send the pt back out, then calls 911 for transport. and of course i get fired the next day for it.

i filed for unemployment and now the company is fighting it, i dont think it was misconduct the pt came back the way they were sent out and they were sent back the same way the next day. oh i forgot to mention this nurse and a day shift and oh yeah a ADON didnt like me for a reason none of them can explain (they all act like they are 15 y/o rich girls that get whatever they want, but i was nice to them like there wasnt anything wrong)

never again will i work in a LTC because of this experiance and the lack of training they provided and the paper i signed earlier they are using it against me for the unemployment hearing. and Im having a really hard timje finding a new job, one interview in two months

Contact every temp agency. Re-hash your resume, make it look professional. Tell other employers you left ur last job due to unsafe and unethical work practices that put u and the patient at risk. Highlight your skills and personal attributes. Most agencies offer extra training courses as well so look into that.

I'm a RN in Australia and work thru a fantastic agency at private hospitals only (getting a bit old to do public hospital work), and I can pretty much pick & choose when I want to work, and what wards/departments I want to go to. The money is good and I can choose if I want to work weekends. I also pick up a lot of experience working in different wards too.

Come & move here we would luv to have you! Ha ha!

Don't temp me ha ha I've always wanted to go to australia! That last job I found was from a temp. 16 hours a week! over an hour away! The pay was way below average. By the time I got thru paying them, insurance, gas I would have come out with 44 dollars.Got an application from staffing for corrections. They required IV certification. I've been certified 5 times in the past but not once did i ever have to use it. I submitted all my paperwork 2 days ago for an alabama license. Unemployment here is 12%.. its 9.7 there. My chances of finding a job are better over there.

Girl you just described my life LOL. I've said "BUT WHY" so many times and never got a "why" only some made up bs. I could run circles around the others and most of the time ended up having to pick up half their load because they were behind. Didn't matter that they were outside chatting with other staff, sitting in some room watching TV, or on their cell phone constantly. But I always got the axe! I never cared how i received the cart! As long as the narc's were good. I'd get the keys and start pounding that concrete. I could clean it up on my own. But let me leave one little something..or not put fresh water on the cart OMG! you would have thought the world came to crashes hault!

Oh Purple, first, let me give you hug... (((((hug))))) It all sounds soooo rotten, I hope you get your U.Insurance- tell them you signed the paper under stress, all related to the crappy place and the pressure you felt, actually explain it as you have in the post. It sounds like a lot of LTC places,... just a different day. Why did you leave the Dr office?, maybe you can go back there? please keep us posted.!!

I have been trying to find a new job for the last 2 months and NOTHING. had one interview they said i would be having a second interview shortly and they never called back that was 6 weeks ago, and other jobs i apply to (that i am qualified for) always come back as i dont have the desired qualifications. *****???

Im so frustrated and stressed out. I was the main bread winner and now we are just barely making it and this month i dont think we are going to make it

I saw on one of the posts above where you said this was your first nursing job- are you putting this job under "prior work experience" on your applications?? If you are, maybe just omit it altogether and apply as though you've never had an LPN job before... just a thought. I hope everything works out for you! Nursing is supposed to be gratifying and rewarding, but unfortunately the profession is filled with people that are in it for all the wrong reasons ($$). There's drama in every workplace setting, but when you mix in healthcare/state rules and regulations, nursing can become a crazy profession and it shouldn't have to be this way. Best of luck to you :)

First of all everybody gets fired for one reason or another it happens, you just have to roll with it.Second of all they do not tell you that alot of doctors do not want to deal with people from ltc .In nursing school that is one of the things they fail to mention. The third thing is you can put someone on o2 as a nursing measure up to 2 liters you do not need a mds order .Also you are the only licensed person that is taking care of that person if md will not give you an order to transport back do it any way it your license on the line not theirs. We are supposed to be the patients advocate that means we have to stand up to md when they are wrong. The biggest problem with nursing is with stupid people in charge. good luck with everything remember there are a whole bunch of different types of nursing. We all need to take new nurses under our wings and lift them up not stand on them and hold them down.

thanks everyone for the support:redpinkhe, it helps alot to know Im not the only one who has gone through this.

and I'll answer as many of the questions/statements:

this was not my first job, but it was the first LTC facility job...and in the state im in they do credit/background checks for everyone so you cant 'adjust' your work history, otherwise I prob would.

i cant go back to my prior job they are fully staffed and they are located almost an hour away.

i have looked into staffing agencies, but they want a copy of physical and tb results, neither of which i have or can get at the moment (no insurance and no money).

I have how-ever applied at a few (ok a ton) of places within a 25 mile radius (this covers many cities), and a few I will be calling during the week to inquire on if anyone has had time to review my resume/applications. I am just so ready to get back to work I feel like I'm about to crawl up the walls. I do continually check local and national websites for job postings. I just hate getting refusals from places when your well qualified for the job, its like they didnt even look at your app/resume.

But I keep truckin along...
