why me

oh where do I start?....

Im so frustrated and stressed out I dont even really know how to put it into words, but I'll try.

I worked at a LTC for 7 months they originaly hired me for tx nurse for fri-sun 12 hour shifts. They mainly trained me for tx nurse with a sprinkle of med nurse just incase. then after two months they told me I had to sign a verification sheet stating I know ALL company procedures and if I didnt they couldnt schedule me anymore. So I signed it. then things started to change next thing i know they were scheduling me to do only med pass and of course this is a place that writes you up for everything. I had a personal inservice on remebering to fax things and to remember to cirle intials if not having done something from the MARS or TARS (by the way this is my first time working in a LTC and had only been a LPN for just under a year, and had only worked in Dr offices) ok so I goofed I admit it, and we move on.

so months later a pt was sent to the hospital for whatever reason (obviously cannot give details) after a change in status the hospital sent this pt back the next day in the same condition they were sent in, and of course I got to do the admission during the dinner med pass (AWSOME.... ok not really) so anyways the CNA arrives back with the pt and said she fell asleep on the ride back, so we put the pt to bed, did vitals BP was low but that was common for this pt when sleeping (we even bothered the pt to make sure they were still concious and yes they were, we both got slapped at) I called the physician and told them that this pt was back in the same condition and asked for oxygen( the physician told me to call and leave a message at his office as a reminder for him to come visit the pt), so and I continued on with putting the chart together and documenting blah blah blah, the next nurse comes in and proceds to jump allover me about the garbage in the cart not changed and I told her as soon as I was done I would change the bag (clearly it wasnt a good enough answer for her) so she comes over to get report I tell her about the pt that came back and she proceds to go into a frinzy saying im trying to kill the pt cause the pt was the same as they were when they were sent out. so she calls the dr again and askes to send the pt back out, then calls 911 for transport. and of course i get fired the next day for it.

i filed for unemployment and now the company is fighting it, i dont think it was misconduct the pt came back the way they were sent out and they were sent back the same way the next day. oh i forgot to mention this nurse and a day shift and oh yeah a ADON didnt like me for a reason none of them can explain (they all act like they are 15 y/o rich girls that get whatever they want, but i was nice to them like there wasnt anything wrong)

never again will i work in a LTC because of this experiance and the lack of training they provided and the paper i signed earlier they are using it against me for the unemployment hearing. and Im having a really hard timje finding a new job, one interview in two months

the whole situation makes me feel sick, in one way I feel as though I was partly responsible but on the other I feel like it was a domino effect of one bad call after another by a few people, should I feel this way?

crap rolls downhill. you were unfortunately at the bottom of said hill. i get plastered for crap and i am a cna. btw, when did i become the "property" of whatever nurse is in charge? why are the cna's referred to as "my" cna as opposed to "the" cna? small? maybe. but as much as lpn's complain about lack of respect that crap gets old fast for us cna's too.

i am truly sorry you had to endure that mess at your job. i myself work at an ltc and know how snarky it can be. i choose not to believe all ltc's are bad. tonight at work i had a particularly good shift. some days not so much. as with any job some days you're the dog, other days you're the fire hydrant...

they'll get their comeuppance for this soon enough.

Im sorry you get taken as "property". Some nurses feel that CNAs are not important, but really where would we but without our CNAs? lost and really really really screwed.

The CNAs even fought for my job (really like 5 of them), but to no avail the evil nurses won. Maybe losing the job was good over all, Im just waitng for good part to come :)

Some of the greatest (and wealthiest) people have said being fired was the best thing to have ever happened to the career-wise.

This can happen to anybody. Many years ago at a LTC I got called in on my day off. Not to work, as I found out, but to get fired. On my way out, I got a tip from a CNA (I guess I was the last one to find out about my termination) that another facility was having trouble staffing a position. Went straight over there, got the job, more money and better environment, and worked there for several years.

I do have a question, was the patient on O2 prior to hospital, or was this a change in status? Anyway, I do think they did you a favor.

the pt was on O2 at the hosp. the hosp sent the pt back with a low BP, I called the Physican and got O2 ordered (all other vitals were within normal limits).

So sorry this all happened to you. I was fired from a nursing job 3 years ago for telling a colleague that our boss could go ef himself...unemployment didn't agree that it was a terminable offense so I was lucky in that respect. Then I found a wonderful job...I work about 3 projects a year (depending on length) and make double, even triple what I made at bedside nursing. Hang in there...when one door closes, another often opens. :smokin:

You worked there because you needed a job and they changed the rules as they saw fit, then got rid of you when it became expedient for them to do so. Happens all the time in LTC. You just need to put this behind you and look forward to finding a better place to work. Good luck.

I have been trying to find a new job for the last 2 months and NOTHING. had one interview they said i would be having a second interview shortly and they never called back that was 6 weeks ago, and other jobs i apply to (that i am qualified for) always come back as i dont have the desired qualifications. *****???

Im so frustrated and stressed out. I was the main bread winner and now we are just barely making it and this month i dont think we are going to make it

I know exactly how you feel. I was let go without cause, luckily I got unemployment but thats not going to last. I have been searching high and low for a job and theres always a glich! I know nurses who are way more qualified than myself that can't find a job either. I have a cousin whose an RN and she managed to find a 15 hour a week job and fills the rest of her hours working at a clothing store. Personally I'm in progress of getting my alabama license. If I can't get a job here maybe I can get one there. Somethings got to give!

Have you tried staffing agencies or temp agencies. They may not have an assignment that you like right away, but by working temp at different places, you get a feel for things and hopefully you'll eventually land a job you love. Good Luck
