Hello,

Does anyone have any information on international programs for United States students in Germany? I am getting relocated to Germany Jan 2011 due to significant other being in the military and don't even know where to start finding information. As we'll be there for at least a couple of years, I'd like to use the time academically

Can't say I have heard of any International schools for nursing. You may have to look at doing it as an International student within Germany itself and for that would say you will need to be fluent in German. Plus also be aware you may have to follow different requirements when training outside the US with the state BON when you return to the US

I looked a bit online, not much there, there's one nursing school in Kaiserslautern the next city. But I have no clue about their curriculum, it might be a better idea to do sth different. The technical university in Kaiserslautern does accept international students, their english programs though are mostly computer science and business orientated and they offer mathematics and I believe physics.

But what about studying maybe german there, or one of the programs offered in german?

It's not too far to drive and you want to have a car anyway to get around.

It's a big military community, don't know what they offer for the relatives, but I would imagine, they should at least have some infos for you.

To start degree status at a German University you will need to prove that you have the equivalent of a German advanced high school diploma. Most German entering university students have the equivalent of 13 years of primary and secondary school. Needless to say, you will need an excellent command of German.

Another option would be to take classes through some of the American universities that have branches in Germany. This would let you earn credit that can readily transfer back to the US when you return

btw OP... Ramstein is an awesome area! K-town, Kaiserslautern, is very Americanized, so it won't be difficult to get around there.

Hi, I live in Baumholder Germany which is about 30 min from Ramstein. I have only been able to take classes online...well prereqs. I have not found any nursing courses/programs since I do not already hold any nursing certs. I am a MA so I volunteer at the clinic but that is about it.

Landstuhl which is a big hospital 10 min from Ramstein was offering a CNA program last summer but not sure if they are still doing it. Contact their Red Cross. They also offer great volunteer opportunities!
