msoe nursing school

Hi All,

I will be attending MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering) Fall 2011 for nursing. I would like to know for those who attend or know anyone that goes there how the program is. The pros/cons and likes/dislikes of the program if any. Also, how are the teachers and what clinical sites do they use like Froedtert Hospital the VA.

I absolutely love the school. The teachers get to know you personally and really our concerned with you succeeding. The tutoring they offer in English, Math, Sciences. You can one on one help or group tutuoring if its the same students from a particular professors class. Right now I am taking 4 classes (14 credits). Its a lot to do considering I work full-time but I have managed to maintain A's and B's in all my classes. Your academic advisor for the nursing program meets with you every quarter to help you pick out your new classes for the upcoming quarter. They truly do care at MSOE!! I am glad I was referred to the school. They are big on making sure their students are prepared to take the NCLEX and go out into the field of nursing. I met with a couple of the instructors that teach some of the classes during nursiong orientation. They said almost all of their students have a job lined up before they even graduate. Most get jobs in the ICU because they really do alot of hands on clinicals for ICU. The teachers said because the students at MSOE are so knowledgeable when its time to prepare them for the NCLEX its much easier. They had 6 students fail the NCLEX for this years nursing classes (graduation is spring and winter) and the nursing department was not happy at all. So they believe in putting quality of students in the work force and they say the hospitals in the area area always looking for students who graduate from MSOE because they know they have the skill set to accomplish the job. Hi! I also got accepted to MSOE. I'm a bit scared to go because I'm an older student in her 30's would like to know if there are other students around my age. Also, I'm planning to work part time and would like to know how the work load is.

I am also currently attending MSOE and love the nursing school. I am a sophomore and in my first clinical courses this quarter. The school is great and the professors really have a passion for what they teach so they really want to elp teh students learn. I chose MSOE over other schools because you are directly accepted into the nursing program and the placement rate is 99%. When employers see MSOE on your resume, it is an eye catcher and they want you to work for them. We get more clinical experiences here than at more other schools because of our trimester system. There is a lot to do as far as course work and reading but I promise it will all pay off in the end. If you stay on top of your reading, studying, and homework you will be fine. Also utilize the free tutors MSOE offers in the Learning Resource Center. While it may seem a little embarrasing at first if you are not used to needing help from others, the tutors are great and can really help you understand material if you are stuggling. Sorry, it's took so long for me to answer... I've been a bit busy. I just wanted to say thank for answering and letting me see a bit about how MSOE runs things. Also it's good to know that help is available through tutors. I'm not afraid of hard work when I got my first degree I pushed 18 credits a semester, not easy but doable, lol... I finally made the commitment to start school. I start in next week. Hopefully things are going great for you guys!!! :)

Hi! I am looking into transferring to MSOE from UWM (currently wait-listed). What are the pros/cons of the school? I hear the coursework is extremely difficult. Also, how do you like the trimester system? And... if you don't mind me asking, what kind of financial aid package were you offered and how did you pay for the rest of tuition? Any information is appreciated!

So I did not personally go to MSOE but my husband did and had a LOVE/HATE relationship with it. You are right that the course work there is much more difficult than probably any other school (husband hated) however if you are looking for more diverse clinical experiences with critical care rotations this is the place for you (husband loved) His entire last year of school he was in various ICUs in Milwaukee hospitals and was hired into an ICU as a new grad because of MSOEs tough program and emphasis on critical care. He loved his teachers for the most part and liked how his graduating class was only 35ppl. He knew everyone in his program and built re pour with teachers which you made need if you want letters of recommendation. As for financial aid he was able to get i believe 8000 off tuition for his gpa that he transferred in with and other loan things. Any private is going to be more expensive but I think his tuition was about 15 grand a year. Also trimesters Sept-mid Nov, End Nov-End Feb, March-Mid may. By having trimesters that is an extra clinical rotation you get over other schools.

Was anyone a transfer from a semester system to a trimester (or quarter) system? I am worried that the courses will go so quickly and that I will not be prepared as I am used to a semester system. If anyone has any experience with switching systems, please let me know how I can prepare or if the quarter system is right for me to succeed.

I appreciate your response. How is the pass rate for most classes. Are the classes curved? Do a couple of students always fail every class as part of a weed out process? Please feel free to DM. Thank you

I was accepted and told the ABSN has a grant that pays $6,000 off your tuition. That comes out to $36,000 of your tuition.
