Hi all,

Is anyone applying for the prelicensure RN program in CA with a May start date? I just finished submitting my application, so the waiting begins. I'd love to hear from others, and good luck to us all!

I'm strongly considering applying into this program. Are you in the LA/OC area? When do the cohorts start?

Do you know how long it will take you to finish your ABSN?

The program is five consecutive semesters and the cohort I applied to starts May 1 and I believe the application period closed Feb 1. I understand that they try to do two cohorts/year. You're definitely in the right area for the program. I recommend calling an enrollment counselor to see what your options are!

Thanks for the info Amy! I am actually in PA, but relocating back to Encinitas (north of San Diego) in the summer. 5 Semesters, so about 2 years depending on your pace? From what I heard you have 6 months of classes before clinical start, is that true?

You're welcome! I would definitely check with an enrollment counselor. The nursing program is not so much at your own pace like other programs at the school are because of the labs and clinical aspect of the program, so it's two and a half years from your prenursing semester through the four semesters of the prelicensure program. The semesters are six months with no breaks, so it's straight through if you're coming right into the prenursing semester. It seems like a good fit for me, so hopefully I'll be starting in May!

Great! Did they tell you how often you come to the hospital for labs/clinical? I have completed the general application to and am requesting my transcripts now. I have a dual BS degree and most of the pre-reqs completed, although some might have 'expired' according to them. We'll see that the enrollment counselor says. I'm a CNA (I see you are too) and was just accepted into another ABSN online program thru UWOSH only they weren't able to secure my clinical spots-so I like this program since it has established clinical locations. I don't want that headache again! :)

If you look on the prelicensure page and follow the link to the program guide in PDF, it has all of the classes with the labs and clinicals laid out. I'm not exactly sure exactly how it works out, but I believe that your entire schedule is mapped out when you start your first semester, with the exception of the exact shifts you'll have for each clinical. That PDF explains the program really well :)

I'm coming in with a BS in graphic design, and only have to take biochem and stats. My science prereqs are pretty current.

I applied to the May 1st cohort as well. I was told it would most likely be at Huntington Memorial in Pasadena which is exciting because that's a really nice hospital. I'm an EMT and CPT but I am still really nervous about the nontraditional layout of the program but I've read so many reviews that have been extremely positive. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. I have applied to a few other ADN programs which I think I'd prefer for the more traditional, tried and true method but they don't send out admissions letters until after 's start date so I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. I hope to see you in skills!!!

Hopefully, it will all work out for you. That can be a tough predicament to be in. I was in a traditional program and am really looking forward to the online theory route. The 1:1 clinicals is also very appealing. My previous ones were 1:5 at best. My sister and niece both worked at Huntington Memorial and it is a fantastic hospital! I look forward to seeing you in skills too!

Hey everyone. I applied a few months ago for the May cohort and I am dying here waiting to see if I get accepted. Am I the only one that is finding it so difficult playing the waiting game?

I was told they'd notify in the first 2 weeks of March.

Question: does anyone know if they'd allow a 1 cohort "deferment"? I may be doing a job change and moving and I think it might be easier with all the transitions not to throw in nursing school as well and trying to get time off for labs when I just started the job...I don't want them to just drop me if I decide to simply wait 1 cohort start period(if that makes sense).

Opinions?
