RN to MSN at WGU

Nursing Students Western Governors

I began the RN to MSN in education in November 2013 and would love to connect with anyone else in the education or leadership program. I am enjoying it, but miss having the peer interaction of a traditional classroom setting. My mentors have a l been great and I love that you can zip through things that you already know. I would like to hear about your experiences with this type of on-line format.

Best of luck to all who are furthering their education- It's not easy, but it will be worth it!

Can anyone tell me where to find a list of prerequisites for the RN to MSN Education track? I would like to transfer in as many courses as I can. I will be graduating this December with my ADN and have the summer off school. I would like to squeeze some classes in this summer so I can hit the ground running when I apply to . I am a LPN now and will have a RN position upon passing my boards.

If you go to their website you can see the courses they require for degree completion. The "prerequisite" for entry is to be a licensed RN actively working as an RN. Any courses you have not had will have to be taken to complete the degree requirements, but if you are a working RN with an unencumbered license you will be able to take those courses as part of your WGU curriculum.

Coursework is transferred in based on transcript analysis. Some courses are "core" WGU courses that never get accepted for transfer. I believe Nutrition is one of these. Math courses must be within the last five years at the time of transcript analysis or you will have to retake them. You can look at their required classes for the degree, see what you have never taken and then go ahead and take it, but there is no guarantee it will transfer in once your transcripts are analyzed. It just depends on whether your school's courses meet WGU's criteria. Without acceptance to the school probably the only answer you will get from them is "we will have to look at your transcript before we know if the class will transfer in".

I almost took Nutrition at the local community college before applying to WGU. I am glad I didn't. I would have had to take that class anyway.

Thank you! I was planning on taking nutrition this summer! Thanks for saving me the headache!!! :) I guess I will just have to be patient, wait and see.

FWIW, all my 20+ year old math classes DID transfer.. They will not take stats > 5 years tho! :)

They transferred my nutrition course. Wonder if things have changed?

I posted a thread: "How Long to Complete? RN-BSN, BSN-MSN" please feel free to vote on the poll. :)
