Hi everyone,

I am researching as an option for my Pre-Licensure BSN. The one thing that isn't completely clear is how the skills assessment and skills lab are set up, completed, signed off on. How does this part work? The information would be appreciated.

You attend labs usually over 2 weekends and then the 3rd weekend you test off. It is either a skills test where you are expected to perform certain skills or a simulation test where you have a patient to take care of during a simulation scenario. Not all labs have tests or simulations, but the ones that do work like that.

I personally travel, but I am the only one in my cohort traveling far enough to need a hotel. I have made friends that will let me stay at their house sometimes, but the labs are stressful to me so a lot of times I want a hotel just to be myself.

can you give me more information about how the courses run? The closest clinical site is 5 hours from me so how often would i have to go there?

Usually you have a clinical rotation around every 6-8 weeks. For example I had a rotation in July I only had to be down there 8 days that month. My next rotation starts the end of September. I'll have to go 2 weekend and then a third weekend for the test. Then the 72 hour clinical rotation follows that. That is the usual pattern. Then you get a break again from clinicals. However, there are some rotations that are closer together than that.

Nope, but the programs are run pretty much the same across all the states. The facilities and labs are different, but the clinical model and the course work is the same. The scheduling varies a little, but the pacing should be pretty similar.
