Need some "there there"s and "you can do this"

I hit a major roadblock on my capstone. May have to completely scrap what I've been doing and planning for the past 2 months and start from square one. And it's my own damn fault for procrastinating.

If I can't get this figured out in the next couple weeks, then I will not be finished in late May, as I hoped, but will probably have to go into a FIFTH term, and instead graduate in late summer.

I'm so ready to be done, and this roadblock had me in tears yesterday. I actually had the fleeting thought of "**** it, I don't need my MSN." Yes, it was only fleeting and I'm not going to quit now, but the fact that I even had that thought illustrates my level of despair.

I'm SO TIRED. I just want to be done and enjoy the first summer in the past 5 years without school hanging over my head.

What's also frustrating is that my proposed project is SO IMPORTANT and SO NECESSARY at my facility. There's a HUGE process problem that apparently nobody has really recognized as a problem before, that will save the facility thousands of dollars a year and unnecessary treatment and/or delays in treatment for patients.

My manager said yesterday "You can still continue the project for work and present as a poster or something." And I know I will, even if I can't use it for my capstone, because I think it's important and needs to be fixed. But DAMN, I don't want to have to work on TWO huge projects simultaneously.

Just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

There, there, it will be okay. You can do this!

Hang in there. You really can get this done but you are not in the situation to see this because you are too overwhelmed. Take a deep breath. Step back and look at what it would take to make this project "fit" your capstone requirements, if at all possible, and focus on that first.

I know how working on two projects at the same time can be too much. Get a committee or a task force together at work that you could head but delegate the work to.

Good luck. You can do this!!

Dang it, Klone!

Don't lose sight of what you're trying to achieve!

How can you ever get your face on the hospital funny money and have pancakes with the staff if you don't trudge on:

(see my post at #49 :D)

Seriously, though, I'm sorry you're so overwhelmed.

I think enuf already had some good advice.

I have none but I'll gladly give you solid "there there" and a "you can do this".

Shelve the work project for now. It's not going anywhere.

AND- if you don't get the capstone done by May, you don't have to do another entire term. They will prorate you a month or two of tuition since you are at the end of your program.

(I endured the capstone and came out the other side a changed woman. It's like childbirth- you forget about the pain. I just started a DNP that is seriously kicking my sizeable a@@!)

It's time to step back and regroup. Take a few days off, let the frustration ease, and make a plan once you can think clearly again.

Try and see if you can salvage your work with a few tweaks. It may not be as bleak of a situation as you think.

Just remember, you got this far. It was way harder to get where you are than it will be to finish.

You can do this.

Thanks, all. You're great. And Hygiene Queen - I laughed out loud.

I spoke to my capstone advisor today, and she had actually brought my issue up at a staff meeting she had this AM, because she thinks my project is valuable, I just need to approach it from a different angle. She gave me some suggestions, so it looks like all is not lost. I will need to rework some things, partially rewrite the proposal, and go back to the drawing board on my lit review. But the main meat of the project will stay, which means I don't have to start over from square one, and I may still be able to graduate at the end of May.

Again, I appreciate your words of encouragement! :) I'm feeling better about things today.

Wonderful news! I'm anxious to hear about your project!

My MSN capstone got published and opened up all sorts of doors for me. I hope yours does too!
