Has anyone taken Biochem at WGU?

Hi, I'm applying for the RN-BSN program at . I sent in all my transcripts waiting for them to be reviewed but I think I have to take Biochem because I've never taken it. I was just wondering if anyone took it through WGU and what they thought about it? I'm very nervous about taking a science with lab online. If anyone can give me information about it I would appreciate it. How does the lab work, etc? Is it very hard? I was wondering if it would be better to take it through WGU or try and take it at a community college instead? My local community college has "Intro to general, organic, and biochem." It's 4 credits, would that be accepted and/or am I better off taking it at WGU? Thanks.

What exactly are the cohorts? When I did it, they didn't even have the 20-day plan.

The cohorts are optional groups of students who complete a particular course together in a predetermined time frame, usually 20 days, but sometimes 6 weeks. Again, joining a cohort is purely optional and I totally advise against them unless one really struggles with independent learning and/or staying on track.

My mentor urged me to join several cohorts, but I rejected that notion. I am a person who moves at my own speed, so I do not need the structure of virtual classmates.

I heard the RN to BSN at do not have cohorts. That's only for pre-licensing.

Hey everyone without giving too much information, do any of you have any tips or suggestions on what to use for the models for the Biochem tasks? I have researched and seen that people have just drawn out all the models/diagrams and labeled them. Others are able to create them using computer graphics programs. Yet it seems many built models and then added the labels. Any suggestions?

If I recall correctly, for my hemoglobin I used pipe cleaners and placed the completed diagram on a white piece of paper, labeled the paper and drew arrows, and then took a photograph of it. I did the same with one of the other ones (I think it was carbs?) except I used styrofoam balls and dowels.

1. I created my hemoglobin 3D model using colorful yarn.

2. I created all drawings and diagrams by tracing them and coloring them using different-colored markers, highlighters or coloring pencils.

3. I created my monounsaturated and saturated fatty acid models using gummy peach ring candy bits connected to each other by toothpicks.

4. I created my amino acid model (Lysine) using various fruits and veggies: lettuce, cherry tomatoes, purple cabbage, carrots, pineapple chunks and peach chunks. My original Lysine model was crafted using gummy bears and toothpicks, but the TaskStream grader rejected it, so I got more creative.

Those are great, great suggestions. I'm not much of a creative builder. I do better drawing things out or making them on the computer. Do they have to be 3D models. Or do you know if they'll accept my diagrams/drawings?

Some of the assignments, such as the hemoglobin model, must be 3D and crafted out of ribbon, pipe cleaners, yarn or a material of your choice. In addition, the amino acid model must be 3D, and the fatty acid models must be 3D.

The TaskStream instructions and rubric will let you know exactly what needs to be drawn, and what must be submitted as a 3D model.

Different context.

A few specific classes in the RN-to-BSN program have "cohorts". In this case, they're a totally optional and voluntary time-management/study strategy for that particular class, not a group of students going through the whole program at the same time.

So!!!! I just finished submitting 4 of my 5 tasks for Biochem! I'm so excited. As soon as my web cam gets here I'm gonna take the Care of the Older Adult test. Then I'll move to Nutrition. I'm hoping it's not too hard. I'm really not looking forward to Stats at all. But I'm so happy Biochem is almost done. I was so afraid of it and I'm so happy I was able to take it on in less than two weeks. The key was starting all my studying in the weeks before my program started Nov 1. ????
