Hello everybody! I finally got my CA assignment in San Diego! I'm currently in TX. After driving from Boston I have decided I will never drive that distance again! I want to ship all of my belongings, including my car to San Diego. Has anyone ever done this? If so what company do you guys use?

So after reading all of your comments, I have to say...I chose to fly and ship all my belongings. I got a good deal with shipping my car. My belongings will be sent via UPS ground and its so cheap! I guess I'm one of the rare travelers that hates driving long distances. Thanks for the responses guys!

I'm thinking of shipping my car from CA to FL. Which company did you use and did your car arrive in the condition it departed? And how did you get your belongings to UPS?

Uship.com is a lifesaver. Ship cars, pets -anything. Works like an eBay bid.

Interesting! Any warranty like eBay? Shipping cars is risky enough. Going with the low bid seems even more risky potentially.

We shipped cars several times out of necessity (military) and not one time did we get our cars free of damage, to include ripping out a sound system that was OE. I would never ship a car if I had an alternative.

I just finished the drive from northern NV to Florida. It's really quite doable and can be enjoyable with the right mindset as well as less expense and hassle than shipping and flying, especially with the gas prices going down.

If you decide to drive I'd be glad to suggest several possible routes as I have done this trip multiple times. Of course I am adventurous as well as old school - I use a map and sometimes alternate routes rather than a GPS.

My first travel assignment was from Ft Lauderdale to San Antonio. This was before GPS/cell phones. I got trptix from AAA and broke up the 24 hour drive. Spent one night in New Orleans etc...Was really pleasant and saved me a ton. I second the nightmare about shipping a car and/or belongings. Damage/missing items not uncommon. I see the OP has moved but for anyone inquiring.

I drove my car from GA to WA with everything I could fit in it (not much considering that included my boyfriend and our 3 cats) so we are having the rest of our 1 bedroom apartment shipped here. It takes up to 3 weeks and cost $2k. We know we are staying on the West coast though so it was worth it to us. We used a local moving company Maya Van lines.
