Your thoughts on the nursing jurisprudence examination?

Hello,

I plan to get a Texas license early next year. I have to take the nursing jurisprudence examination. The Texas board of nursing website has a link with a $25.00 study guide for this test. What was your thought on this test? Did you consider it fairly easy? I don't really want to spend an additional $25.00 if I don't have to.

It's super easy, I passed it last month on the first try with little preparation. It's computer based, online and open book. You take it from home. You can buy the Nursing Practice act book (Not sure if its the title) for around 9-10 bucks or you can just have the Nursing practice infothat is on the website up on another computer or browser and use that to find the answers. Its 50 questions and I believe you need 38 to pass. IMHO it's not something you need to study extensively for, if at all.

Don't know what happened up there!! Anyway, it is a very easy test. It is open book as the previous poster says. The website tells you that you may reference the material during the test. A lot of it is common sense. I would not bother with the study guide. AND...... you can take it again if you don't pass!

hi, i'm also planning to take the nursing jurisprudence exam. do you have any advice/tips regarding the exam? thanks! :)

I pulled up the references online just in case I had to use them. I didn't. I didn't read anything and passed it in about 20-30 min's. Most state jurisprudence exams are a complete joke. I really don't know the purpose other than to make sure they have something to throw at you in court if you screw up.

Anyway, not worth sweating over, just take it. At least TBON lets you take it online, the chiropractic board made me go to Austin to take a 50 question exam .... that cost me $$$ in travel, time, hotel, food, etc. and that was just plain stupid waste of time.

I stressed unnecessarily over this test as well. It's was a breeze a total common sense test. I searched the internet for answers to maybe 2 or 3 questions. Didn't do any preparation beforehand and I passed.

thanks so much guys! i'm really stressed over this exam and your thoughts made me feel a lot better. i'll take the exam soon. thanks! :)

Here's an example of the questions on this exam.

As a nurse, which of the following should you not do?

A. Feed your patient lunch.

B. Dispense medications.

C. Kill your patient.

It's the easiest, most asinine exam you've ever taken.

I agree with Bortaz. I took it a few weeks ago and it reminded me of the CNA exam. The answers are usually painfully obvious, or else easily found (it usually references a specific part of the NPA, so you can look it up).

You'll be fine! As with NCLEX, the test can't be that bad considering some of the people who end up being nurses.

hi guys! i took my exam yesterday and i passed. thanks so much for the reassuring words! :)

After waiting forever to take mine, I took mine last night as well and passed! I like that it only requires 70% pass rate, although a few of those questions were tricky.
