Where do TWU Dallas Nurses Live?

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I am currently trying to decide if I want to go to nursing school at the TWU Dallas campus or somewhere else. Where do most TWU nurses in Dallas live? Do they commute or live in a certain area in Dallas? Parkland isn't in the best area, and I just do not know if I would want to commute from Denton everyday. Thanks for all of your input.

There are a lot of people who commute in from various cities in the metroplex. There are also several apartment complexes in the area, and as long as you are in one that is gated, you should be okay. It's really not THAT bad! In the immediate area by campus there is Cityville, 5225 Maple Avenue, and Inwood on the Park. Just another minute more away is "the gayborhood", so if you are comfortable with that, there are several nice apartment complexes on Cedar Springs. If you have money to spend, Uptown Dallas is only a few more minutes away.

A little bit further away, off of I-75 and Lovers Lane area, there are The Village apartments, which can be sort of budget friendly, as far as Dallas goes, depending on which apartment complex you select.

Don't be scared of Dallas or the Parkland area! I live here and I'm still alive and have yet to be victimized!

They live all over, in all nooks and crannies spanning across both sides of the Metroplex.

By the way, Denton to Dallas is not a bad commute. I commuted 200 miles daily roundtrip x5 days weekly for 1 year. I put 53,000 miles on my vehicle during a 12 month period. Hence, my username is "TheCommuter." :)

I lived in Lewisville when I worked at Parkland. It was 19 miles exit to exit on I-35. You get used to listening to the traffic report while getting dressed and you know where to detour along the way if needed. :wink2:

Living north of Lake Lewiville would be nice, but an accident that ties up the bridge would completely cut you off. That may be just me...the thought of being in a traffic jam on a bridge gives me the creeps!

In about 2 or 3 years I would like to be at TWU in Dallas aswell. I was wondering the same thing- where would I live? Would I commute? I currently live in Denton/Lake Dallas, so driving to Dallas every day might be a pain, but paying for rent in a Dallas apartment might also be a pain. (Does anyone know what rent is like there? I assume it's high.)

sjt9721, Lake Dallas is north of the Lake Lewisville bridge, and I agree. Traffic can be bad there, with or without a wreck. :(

ahhh, the puzzle pieces begin to come together now!

:D

If all goes as planned, I will be starting at TWU in Dallas this summer. I live in southwest Fort Worth, (Near Hulen/TCU area), and have decided to commute. I thought about the drive five times a week and am seriously considering taking the TRE. It's $80/month and from the station near my house to the medical district station in Dallas, it's only a 55 minute trip. Not only will it save gas, but I can also use that hour to study instead of pulling my hair out over dealing with DFW traffic. This might be an option to consider, but it only runs east and west between Fort Worth and Dallas, so it may not be feasible for everyone.

McKinney is a pretty good city, it's only like 30 miles from denton... :)

I take the TRE from Irving to college at El Centro. It is so much better than driving and I do get to study on the way!

Right now I am living in Plano and commuting to Denton. Hopefully next Spring I will be going to the Dallas campus. Maybe you should consider a suburb that is a bit closer to Dallas? You don't necessarily have to move to Dallas if you're going to move.

Absolutely use the public transportation if you can. You'll knock out so much studying on the way to and from, and no stress from driving!

We are very lucky in the d/fw area because we actually have decent public transportation. We're honestly one of the only cities in the entire southwest who can say that. Take advantage! :)

Hey so you all seem DFW area savvy :)

Lemme ask, if you were a young single nurse accepting a job at Parkland...

where would you wanna live in the area?

I've lived in FW for a couple years but think I might wanna move a bit closer, yet I don't know the area... assume money isn't a huge issue.

Safe

Reasonable commute to Parkland

I may be getting my BSN at TWU so maybe near there too?

Did I mention safe?

Area of young professionals, not so much college kids :)

Just thought it was worth a shot---- Thanks!
