UTMB BACC2 Spring 2012

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I wanted to start a thread for those applying for UTMB's 2012 accelerated nursing program. The application is open April 1-July 15. I was told invites for interviews start after the application is closed and interviews start end July-August. Does anyone have any additional information? Has anyone applied before? Know of any interview questions? Please share everything you know!!!!!!!

Good luck to everyone

Just curious how is everyone paying for school? If you received your financial aid award was it enough to cover all of the costs? ( tuition, books, living expenses since we can't work) I'm reapplying with my parent's financial info and am hoping I get enough to not have to get private loans

jluster,

How long have you been on your own? I have been independent of my parents since 96 and they are about to retire so I can't see using their information. They are not going to cosign anything for me either. Let me know what you find out. I have called enrollment services 2-3 times now and can't get them to call back. Any tricks?

I've had pretty quick responses from enrollment services/financial aid. I too am concerned about money for school. I'm currently a teacher and there's no way possible I'm going to be able to do it if all I get is what they offered in aid. :( I'm really saddened and hope to find additional aid really soon (that is not a third party loan).

I just turned 24 but filed independent for the first time this past year for taxes...so not too long. From what I understand, they just require your parents info, no matter how long you've been independent, in order to be considered for the school institutional loans and grants. It's not supposed to decrease the amount of money you get, only help you to get more. It is weird I'm not quite sure why they require that info. I had to call enrollment services about 5 times before I finally got through to someone to answer my question. It was about 1 o clock, might have just been coming off the lunch break. Not sure why nobody ever answers, kind of frustrating but they're probably pretty busy. I would just keep calling. I pushed option 8. spoke with V.Baker

Good luck with everyone! I got an interview invite finally from them, however they only gave me 2 days notice of my interview! I work a full time job & couldn't get off, has this happened to anyone?

I would have been in that same interview situation had I not had a funeral to go to. I had vacation planned for 2 days after the interview, but since I live out of state I was granted a phone interview. I guess I lucked out. Not sure what you do, can you switch with anyone? Take a vacation day?

Does anyone know if they started a Facebook Page for the Spring Program Students? I know someone had mentioned it a while back.

Thanks!

Hi guys, after a lot thinking and consideration I decided to decline my offer and open up for those who really want it. Wish you guys the best of luck!

Where have you decided to go?

I've also been looking for the facebook page but have not found one.

@DD - good luck in whatever it is that you decide to do. I know it must have been a tough decision.

I am still trying to figure out how in the world I am going to be able to pay for school. What financial aid offered is definitely not enough at all! I have a mortgage, car payment, and all those other things we pay for as we get older. I've also had a fulltime career for the past 5 years, so going to no steady income is really terrifying - not to add that my husband is in medical school so we have to work all of that in. UGH! Super stressed! But still excited all at the same time :)

Nene and Krmolina, I have decided to take the graduated school path out of state. This mean I have to put my family life on hold. It was a hard decision but I don't want to regret it at the end. I'm not getting any younger.

As for facebook, there is a page for Bacc2 Spring 2012.

Financial aid, I believe you guys should be fine. I believe the max you can take out for school loan is about 130,000 (this include your old college loans too). Also, there are federal loans based on your credit on top of your school loan (fixed)and privately loans(this is your last resort bc the rate varies).

DD where did you get those numbers from? The max UTMB is offering me is less than 15K. That's not even half of my income now. I have looked into third party loans but that is definitely going to be my last resort.

Thanks for the info.
