U.S.A. Texas

Published

I wanted to start a thread for those applying for UTMB's 2012 accelerated nursing program. The application is open April 1-July 15. I was told invites for interviews start after the application is closed and interviews start end July-August. Does anyone have any additional information? Has anyone applied before? Know of any interview questions? Please share everything you know!!!!!!!

Good luck to everyone

What did you find out?

I went to my mystar account and ACCEPTED admission too- then my hear sank as my account said "incomplete" afterwards!!

I received my acceptance email yesterday, then went to mystar and accepted a little afterwards... My mystar still says "incomplete..." I know in the previous threads several people found out on mystar before they actually got an email!

okay good to know!

I still haven't gotten an email but I did accept on MyStar... so I am going to consider myself accepted until someone tells me otherwise... YAY!

Does anyone know when the program starts (actual date)?

Hello Y'all! Congrats to all who've received interviews and acceptances!

I'm starting the traditional program in January and I'm curious about financial aid... Can anyone tell me if I will be able to get enough student loans to pay for tuition and books? I'll be living off campus so all I have to worry about is tuition, books and travel expenses. I've read that the limit is $12,500 per year for loans, can I not apply to several other places for loans to cover the difference? Also, I've heard of someone being considered a dependant even though she clearly wasn't, thus having to include her parents income and then not being able to use the PELL. Any experience with this?

When I was down there driving around lost.. someone mentioned a red building.... either "big red" or "old red"??

can someone enlighten me on this?

LavenderButterfly,

Yes, they have a table that estimates costs for the program. It lists in state living with parents, instate living on campus, off campus, out of state, etc. For everything tuition, fees, housing, food, etc. they estimate $68,000. I will hope to do it for less, and am hoping I don't need a cosigner on my loans. I am still waiting to hear from Financial Aid so I can get a little more clear on my costs.

Where are you from?

Wow that's scary. I have seen a table that they have, but I thought I recalled $15,000 for in state and about $30,000 for out of state. That's more than double and that scares me. I wonder if they give enough money. I'm in the same boat hoping to not need a cosigner for loans either. As of right now tho. I'm still stressing about getting in. I'm waiting to hear back regarding the traditional program. I'm an applicant from California. That's gonna be a pricey move, but I'm ready and willing if they'll have me!

LavenderButterfly,

I am also ready to go and super excited. Too bad my family isn't with me anymore now that the cost sunk in. They are scared I won't be able to afford it and want me to look at more LPN/RN programs here in the state. But for those I have to retake more of my undergrad classes because they are old. UTMB is not requiring me to retake but will make it harder for me in an already difficult program. How can I send you my email addy privately?

Hmmm that's a good question. I'm not sure how to send private messages on here, but if I can figure it out. I'll send you mine.
