UTA FALL 2012

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey all, I thought I would set up a place to discuss the next application period for UTA's Fall 2012 nursing program. There was so much info in the Spring 2012 forum, thought it might be helpful to start a new thread...

Post away!

I feel your pain! I'm losing patience but I'm accepting this outcome, slowly :(..

Ditto to all of your comments regarding your lack of patience and general disappointment. The only thing that is keeping me hopeful is that people are still getting called. I was worried all calls would be made the week before last and the only calls that would be made after that would be the calls for "no shows" and those who failed path or pharm. At least some people were called last week. I guess they aren't in any rush, as orientation is not until August.

I looked at different options once I was waitlisted I applied to San Jacinto College for their ADN program, Chamberlain College of Nursing which is a one year online program to in Houston, and has an online BSN program that takes about 2 years. They actually have a class starting September 1 and the deadline is July 15th. The program at WGU requires letters of recommendation but those don't have to come from a professor, a resume, personal statement, and transcripts. The only difference is WGU requires the TEAS test.

I wish I was closer to those schools... Thanks for the info!!!

For those of you on the wait list, I found an interesting article on WFAA's website. After googling to find how many people are usually wait-listed, this is what I found - approximately 13 people.

I don't know how reliable this info is, as it was published in 2010 and it doesn't specify the number of waitlisters for both programs. Also, it does say the class size is 40 students, so I suppose we could multiply 13X3. I don't know if I am grasping at straws, but at least it's something.

That number is the number of El Centro wait list according to the article. I remember the advising days for those on wait list back in May, there were a lot of people and it should be more than 13 :)!

Thomas, good catch. Those numbers didn't add up for some reason. I suppose that is what sleep deprivation will do to you. Lol.

Lol I wish that number was true though! By the way, I kinda dont believe there is a nursing shortage in our area. You can see a lot of new grads don't have jobs right now, I dont know why the media keeps saying there is a nursing shortage!!!! I hope when we graduate in the next 2-3 years, the economy will be much better...

Well, submitted my applications for both programs last week. Got the confirmation email today that they were both received. I didn't think I had to send them again (at least for the campus program) since I am on the waitlist for Fall, but my advisor said I needed to so I did. Patho and Pharm are going very well. Still "waiting"...not near has anxious anymore but still hoping I get a call. How is everyone else doing?

I was denied for the AP BSN program this application period. I didn't apply traditional so my eggs were all in that basket. Anyways, I got a strange call from one of the Dean's asking if I would be interested in going to Denison, San Antonio or Longview. If I was, I would be accepted. That just won't work for me with small kids and living in DFW.

I told her "no" and then told her I had already sent in my applications for the next AP BSN and traditional programs. She looked at my app and said with a 4.0 GPA I would definitely be accepted to the traditional program. Then she said "See you in the spring!" So I'm thrilled with that. I had no other considerations so the AP program is sort of out even with a 4.0. But without considerations and a 4.0 I will be a "shoe-in" (what she said!) for traditional.

Anyone else looking to get in Spring 2012 to the traditional program??

That happened to a friend of mine as well for Spring 2012. She was denied for the AP program and waitlisted for the traditional. She got a call 3 weeks before classes started for a spot in the AP program but it was for a partnership in Longview (Good Shepherd). She was able to do it and commit to the commute two days a week so she took it. That would be awesome to hear those words directly from the dean.....call her back and ask her to put that in writing! LOL! No really, that is awesome she said that.

Me too Megreen! I am going back and forth with either going ahead and starting the ADN program I was accepted to or hold out for Spring AP BSN program at UTA or on campus for Spring...of course this is if I don't get called from the waitlist. I am employed at Parkland now and I think my chances of getting in to the AP program for Spring are a lot better than they were this go around. I also don't want to miss out on starting school somewhere though....what do you guys think?

Hey rubyredd. I work at Parkland also, and I have 2 considerations, and I was waitlisted. When I called the contact person for Parkland, she told me that they only pick 10 per start date. They weren't going to increase the cohorts, due to lack of space. I was concerned that UTA didn't actually pick 10, but the liasion person said they do. So now I am nervous!! That means I will be competing for 1 of the 10 spots with you and I know 2 other people from Parkland applied for Spring 2013. I hope we all get spots. I hope we were the only 4 applied ;-) What department fo you work in? I work in Lab Central on the ground floor.
