Tarrant County Fall 2011 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello,

I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.

I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.

I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.

@Cluman-when I called KL she sent me the information the next morning. Also, I asked her about the Math0350 & Chem and she said you just have to have one or the other, BUT you have to be within TSI requirements on the math. SO, you may want to ask her specifically about it if you have any confusion about what the TSI requirements are (has to do with the accuplacer I think). The chem taken at TCC is okay to apply at WC.

cluman, she takes a few hours to send it.

You have a busy schedule ahead of you for the next semester. I took APII and Chem in the spring and I just about died. ;) I'm taking Micro in the fall and math, I just got my books in the mail today.

Oh, and the Chemistry that you take at tcc is accepted by WC. That's a good question about the math though. I think it is either chemistry or math but you have to be TSI complete like studentcl2009 mentioned.

Let me know what you find.

I have a varicella titer scheduled for tommorrow at the local health department and will start my hep b series at the end of August once the school rush for vaccines is over.

It is nice to be able to share with someone the hastle that it takes to become a nurse. :)

Hi everyone! I am also applying to both WC and TCC, except for the Spring 2011 class. Please let me know if y'all have any questions, as I have completed the application process for WC, and am working on getting my application turned in for TCC.

Someone mentioned accepting more students @ TCC now that the Nursing Program is being relocated to the downtown Trinity River campus. I've heard that for Spring 2011 they will be accepting 130 students. I'm not sure if that number will change for Fall 2011. I have also heard that TCC will be getting a simulation hospital, similar to UTA's BSN program. I am excited about the prospect of that, as I think it will help in our education.

And as for the shots, I would highly recommend going to your county's local health department. I called Care Now regarding my Hep B series, and it was going to be $108 for EACH shot!! That's over $300, and I have medical insurance. Knowing how much they were going to charge me, and that it literally takes months to get in to see my primary care doctor, I opted to go to the health department.

Good Luck to all of you! I know how exciting and absolutely terrifying it is all at the same time to finally be applying.

So will anyone be applying to TCC or WC sans a co-req? I am seriously considering dropping out of speech before the start of the semester so I can focus on my science, but I would be so upset if I didnt get in based solely on that decision...I have one bonus course done, but I think I should probably just tough it out and take the speech class...I just keep telling myself...its only 3 months...! Hoping some positive self talk will keep me sane this semester. :)

Speech is one of 3 classes you do not have to have completed before you apply, as long as it is completed at some point during the Nursing Program before you graduate. I think if your Science GPA is high enough and you have good TEAS scores, a speech class will not cost you your seat. Of course, that's only my opinion. You could always drop the speech class now, and then pick it up again during the Spring semester to have something to help keep your mind busy while you wait to find out if you've been accepted.

I personally would not drop speech even though it is not a requirement for applying. There may very well be over 100 that has all of their requirements completed and good teas score. I'm kind of scared that I have not done any bonus classes. Do you think that will hurt me?

I would highly discourage you from dropping speech- I know it is tempting to only focus on your science classes, but like previously stated, people who have all classes done (with good grades and TEAS) take preference for seats.

I am about to enter my last semester (studying cardiac meds as we speak!) and am SO bummed that the simulation hospital is being put in place AFTER I graduate! I think it will be great though, and the downtown campus is beautiful :-) The program has been tough, but definitely doable (and I work FT!) and I feel like I have received a great education. Good luck!

Corky, first of all, CONGRATS on starting your last semester!! That is awesome! Overall, are you happy with TCC's program? Anything you feel we should know before entering (hopefully)?

As far as work goes, that is something that I have been pretty concerned with. Unfortunately, I will have to work full time while attending NS. I am happy to see that it is doable. What is the program structured like as far as hours? Are you working nights? Luckily my boss has reassured me that as long as I get my work done, she doesn't care what hours I work, but I was curious how you manage juggling all of it.

Wow! Full time work, that is amazing. I work full time now, but if I get in I was going to try and knock it down to PT. How do you do it :) ??? Thanks for all the great info and I have decided just to keep speech for Fall '10, I feel like dropping it would def. be a disadvantage for me at this point.

I think staying in the speech class is probably the right decision.

On a side note, trying to get my shots/TB test/Varicella titer has turned in to the most frustrating obstacle of this entire process. I guess it doesn't help that parents are scrambling to get their kids' vaccinations before school starts.

Congratulations on your last semester and your upcoming graduation from the program. I think I have seen you userid in previous threads :) It is nice to hear from students that has had the experience themselves. I'm eager to get accepted :) (got to stay positive here) and take advantage of all the future resources TCC will offer. The simulation hospital sounds great!

I'm glad you are staying in speech. I guess I could have said, drop it! (better chance for me to get accepted) but everyone needs the opportunity here. I'm willing to help any one out because I know this is a real trying process.

Have you called your physician's office to get the shots? I went over to the local health department to get titer and shots but I was advised to wait to get my shots once the back to school vaccines rush was over. I did get my titer for varicella and I should get back results next week. Once I came home, I called my physicians office and they told me that they could get me in on Monday (I thought it was going to be a huge wait). They offered me to get a titer done for hep B but unless you have had the three series before or have had hep B before, it will be a waste of time and money because you will not show immunity to hep B. I was told this by a nurse at the health department. FYI, My physicians nurse told me that health insurances does not cover titers.

Sorry if I'm rambling.

I was at the college yesterday and I was talking to a prospective nursing student and he/she was a little discouraging. Said that TCC is nearly impossible to get in, waste of time and that she was applying else where. I know that it is difficult but I'm trying to stay positive. Negativity brings me down.
