Tarrant County College Spring 2014

U.S.A. Texas

I haven't found a thread for Spring 2014 TCC nursing applicants, so I thought I would start one! I still have 2 more classes to complete before I can officially apply. I have an A in A&P I, and hope to have an A in A&PII this semester. I scored 92.5 on my HESI, but I might re-take it.

Who else is applying and what does everyone else have?? :)

Do you have to make an appointment to turn it in? I've tried to meet with an adviser twice now and both times no one has showed up. I want to make sure I turn it all in to the right place though!

Hi- I turned mine in yesterday. You turn them in at the trinity river east campus in the nursing advising office. It is in the second building from the parking lot on the same level as the water creek thing in the corner. I'm sorry I can't think of the room number. You sign in and the the receptionist goes over it with you and then makes a copy of the form for your receipt. You can meet with an advisor if you have questions, you don't need an appt but I don't think they take anyone after 3 or 4. She said that they will notify us via the email we provided sometime in November. Her first was Laura. She was very kind and wasnt phased by my anxiousness and nervousness.

This is going to be a long two months! Ahhhh!

Oh and one more thing- I was reading the threads from this time 2 years ago (crazy right?) and they found out Oct. 31st. First they send out the email for those accepted and they give you 5 days to turn in your acceptance form. Then they send out to those who were declined and those who are alternates. Anyway, go check out previous years threads, full of great info and its good to know that we are not the only ones who obsess over this process.

I am scheduled to take the HESI tomorrow. I have gone thru the Evolve book and I've looked at the vocab words and things on quizlet.com.

So my question for those of you that have already taken the HESI - Are the practice tests on www.test-guide.com pretty close to what we will be tested over? If not, what other practice tests do you recommend? What was closest to the actual test?

I just want to be as prepared as possible. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us!

How did your test go?????

It went great!!!! I got a 96 overall! Reading-96%, Grammar-92%, Vocabulary-98% and Math-98%.

To me it seemed that the practice tests in the back of the review book were much harder than the actual test.

I agree with some other comments on here that the vocabulary section of the test contained a lot of words that were not in the review book. The ones I remember are efface (to remove by rubbing, erase), infer vs. imply, and some commonly used but tricky words like persecute, ostracize, detestable, environment, etc. The commonly used words were tricky because the answer options they provided were either really similar to each other, or they were nowhere near what you thought it meant. I had a handful of questions about anatomical orientation (e.g. Anterior, posterior, lateral, transverse, etc.). And I had to know the scientific name for the soft spot on a baby's head. Lol. It was fontanel.

With math it was mostly fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions and there were several word problems. I didn't get a single Roman Numeral or temperature conversion question, though others have said they had at least one of each question. I did have a military time question. I had to convert mL to ounces, lbs to kg, ounces to gallons and pints, cm to ft, and a few conversions within the metric system (e.g. mL to L, g to kg, etc.).

With Grammar I don't remember much. But I know I had to identify a direct object and a verb. Had to know the difference btw themselves/theirselves, affect/effect, lie/lay, further/farther and I'm sure there were others. I just can't remember.

With Reading...it was very similar to the book review. The only suggestion I can give is to remember to look a the title of the story you're reading. That helped me decide on answers for two questions....don't know if those are two I missed or not though. Lol

I'm just SO relieved that it's over!! Gotta work on getting the rest of my application completed so I can get it turned in. I've got a 4.0 in sciences,so it looks like I'll be seeing you in January!!

Thank you for the info! That makes things much easier. I appreciate you sharing :-)

I went to THRA 4008 and no one was there. I was told by e-mail from one of the adviser's to turn it into the Dean's office. But now that you are saying you've turned it in elsewhere I'm really getting uneasy!

When you turned it in, did they go through it with you, complete the third page of the application, have you sign it, and make you a copy?

I just looked at the campus map and it is in THRA level 3. You walk down the hallway and it is the last door on the left. I actually have the business card of the person I gave mine to. I will try and PM you the phone number.

I'm sure it will be fine. Worse case you resubmit it.

Just found the room number! It's TRHN 3211 A.

The place I was told to turn the application into was TRHA 4008. I have spoke with Jessica there several times to ask questions.

Well it sounds like there are multiple places to turn it in. I'm sure this will make Morganmarie feel better that hers was received :) 7 weeks to go!!! Wonder how many they receive?

Will be applying with a 4.0 GPA and 90 HESI :-) good luck everyone!

I will be applying with a 3.5 GPA and a 94 on the HESI. Is this good enough to get me in? Or should I work on replacing my 2 B's with A's?
