Anyone applying?

WOW....I'm shocked and surprised by the people who are quick to judge others and think they know who deserves a spot in this program over others......the girl who was late.....I happen to know her and she had her car break down on the way there and was stranded for over 2 hours, left her car just to get a ride so that she could make it in time to catch at least part of the orientation. Unkept hair? Really??? I'm again shocked that we are all being so carefully critiqued and criticized on our looks and outer appearance by people who are supposed to be our support group for the next 2 years. Perhaps if any of us had been stranded on the side of a busy freeway in the early chilly morning, our hair might look a little unkept as well. If someone is bitter because they are an alternate, that's one thing. But no one should be so quick to judge everyone else based on one incident without having any idea of the circumstances. I'm guessing these people who are so quick to criticize spent most of the orientation looking around the room judging everyone and deciding who looked less deserving of a spot in the program than them. Sad. I certainly hope the majority of those in the program are a little more positive and less self centered and judgmental, or this could be a very long 5 semesters.........Oh, and also, just ranting....

well said, asilaj6991.....I completely agree. I also know that girl and she would be so surprised and hurt to see what was said about her and how she was judged. I took several classes with her and she is NEVER late, is extremely nice (not to mention smart as can be!) and I am so thrilled to attend this program with someone like her!! If I'm not mistaken, she is a member on this group as well, so she will see the comments.....

@flylikeabird, it took me like 3 hours to search and find the best deals and suppliers, and I only think I got everything I needed..... heres to hoping!

Do we have to order the packs from the bookstore online or will they have them there for purchase??

Also, I have morning classes so let me know if you are going to want a study buddy!! I have references. haha!

could you give me hint as to how to get the best deals online? only sources I use are amazon or ebay.... I've finished my order on two classes and I have spent 460 already....so sad right now :crying2:

Also where do we buy cheap and good quality scrubs?? we can get any color we want right?

To everyone who ordered already, what's the difference between the copyright and publication date? reason I'm saying is because amazon showed only publication date and the school website showed copyright date of the required textbooks, and they both showed different dates and years

@alex1987 I got them at Uniform+ at the outlet mall. I spent way to much for the scrubs but I am justifying my purchase by saying it's my congratulatory gift to myself....haha. She said it didnt matter what color we wore just as long as they were solid.

I used Amazon to order my books, i just searched around and ended up finding some good deals, I was beaten to some of the books tho because I recieved a few "out of stock" e-mails today. So now I am basically back to square one.

unfortunately it is human nature to be judgmental. it is, however, within our control to be mindful of our feelings and responses to situations that we initially consider unacceptable or displeasing.

it disturbs me that someone would feel so strongly about a late arrival without considering that person's situation. if you care about this person's tardiness so much that you would post it for everyone to ponder, well.. the selfishness therein is deafening.

did you even stop to consider that she may have a child that had gotten suddenly ill, which happens more often than not, and she had to find a patch for that issue until she could return from orientation?

did you think that maybe she had car trouble and that very few are privileged with a newer, more reliable method of transportation? maybe she called and got the ok to arrive late. whether she did or not, kudos to her for swallowing it all and walking into a room full of eager students and instructors who all knew she was more late than any person, including herself, would be alright with.

being tardy, absent, ill, etc, does not warrant absolute expulsion from anything in life.

have you ever been tardy to work? have you ever had to call out of work? have you ever arrived late to a doctor's appointment? and if so, should you have been terminated or refused treatment?

consider this. it is a nurses job to see her patient's issues from all aspects, without regard to her own personal feelings on the situation. if your patient were of an unusual religion, and she would not allow treatment to occur until only females could work on her, would you be offended? would you think she were being difficult or ridiculous? or would you take her request under immediate consideration and explore all avenues?

also, some patients will not take all their medications due to financial difficulty and sometimes because of the way they were raised. would you blame them for their lack of funds and attribute that to not going to college and getting a decent job earlier in their lifetimes? or would you try and suggest they get a gold card or use their three medicaid prescriptions each month for their most expensive meds and try to pay cash for the less expensive ones? would you condemn them because their parents taught them a different way of life than what you know or would you be respectful of their uniqueness and assist them?

it doesn't discourage me to be in school with those who judge so quickly. i'm actually intrigued by it. it affords me the opportunity to reach out where i might not otherwise be able to. it reminds me that, even though i have moments where i am quick to judge, we are all human and we all make mistakes. what sets us apart is those who recognize their errors are the ones who succeed most in life. and i'm not talking about money.

before spitting on someone's grave, always check yourself first. the word that should have been used was "unkempt," not unkept. when run-on sentences exist, they must be separated by commas or semicolons.

back on point:d that fact that she showed up at orientation even though she was remarkably late proves her resolve. she will more than likely make it through the first few weeks of school. she tried to make it there, she tried to get there as soon as possible, and she trucked on in, knowing that she was late and everyone would stare at her. she is someone i want to know.

lastly, i was an alternate once. it was by no one's fault but my own. i could have studied more for the hesi. i could have sought tutoring. i could have paid for those super practice tests. but i did what i thought was my best and "alternate" was what i earned. obviously "late girl" is someone to be reckoned with. she has done well enough to be included in the "conditional acceptance" group. hasn't that said enough for her? everyone on the alternate list could have done better. everyone. there is always room for improvement, whether you're just starting out or you're a 20 year veteran. even i, a conditionally accepted student, could have studied more and read better in order to raise my hesi score so as to not worry, but i did what i was able to do in the time allotted.

so my plea to everyone: try to be a real (pre)nurse and put yourself in someone else's shoes for just a moment.

could you handle the pressure?

[it is far easier to judge than to understand. be braver than the rest. judge not. seek to understand.]

I added up the prices for the used ones if available with everything under REQUIRED for each of the 5 classes and got over $900... I'm confused

Quick question fellow soon to be nurses! I know that we need to purchase a scrub jacket, but how about a lab jacket? Or is that the same thing? Thank you !

@hopeful well if you look around, used book prices will be different in different book stores (e.g. amazon, ebay, school book store, and others). Just try to find place where you can get the best deal.....textbooks, all five classes, will cost at least 500 or up based on my order... i've odered all the books fot two classes from amazon and so far, i've spent around $450...

@trixforkids wait we have to buy scrub jacket as well? i thought scrub was only thing we had to buy

thank you! i thought the 550 example price was based off the bookstore prices.. and scrub jacket?? what?

i bought two scrub outfits already for 25$ lol

btw if anyone else is as small as i am, a petite 4'10".... and can find scrubs that fit right, lemme know... cause scrub sizes run HUGE especially the pants. i managed to find EX small Mock Tops that tie around the back of the shirt but pants.... man they are baggy.

I didn't hear anything about a scrub jacket either...

I also bought today two scrub outfits for $25 each one...

@thehopeful I got mines at a store called Uniform Destination located in Katy Mills Blvd... they have small sizes. I'm an X Small too, and found both top and pants that fit me... pants are not baggy at all :D

oh i bought two scrub outfits for a total of $25 lol...

wow i should try uniform destination!! what brand are your scrub tops and bottoms? and what colors did you get? i got mine at Garden Ridge, the top are Med + Wear and the bottoms are Black Star.. I think those brands are off brands or Garden Ridge Brands, hopefully not too bad of quality - they feel alright.
