U.S.A. Texas

Published

I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!

Ckfomby, yes the lady does the class in her home it's only two hours and very flexible times every week. If u leave a message she will call u back. Good luck!

Has anyone researched Stethescopes and/or shoes?! I am conflicted on what to do and I don't have the money to buy the wrong thing.

Research the MDF brand... They are cheaper than the Littmanns and amazing quality!! I bought mine at PRN on 1960 and Red Oak because I go to NH so it's right there. It was $50, and I personally compared it to a $200 Littmann Cardio at clinicals in the ER one day and I was shocked that it sounded the same :yeah: The bell is all stainless steel. I promise you it is top quality so if you want to save some money and still want a really good one go look at the MDF's and compare side by side to a Littmann listening to your heart. Littmann is of course a great stethoscope, but why pay more if you don't have to. PLEASE don't buy a cheap stethoscope because you will regret it:no: I felt so bad for some of my classmates when we were in lab learning how to take BP's practicing on each other and they were so frustrated saying the couldn't hear anything with their $15 ones. If you are on a tight budget MDF also makes one step down from mine that is still far superior to the cheapies hanging on the wall for $25 at PRN or online.

I hope this helps:)

Speaking of shoes...what type of shoes are we allowed to wear? The handbook says no clogs but I'm thinking that pertains to Crocs? Surely we can wear Dansko's or Nurse Mates right?

Just got my blue card in the mail! I'm super relieved...even though I've never been in any sort of trouble and I shouldn't have been stressed at all lol. Orientation on Monday! Can't wait!

I am going to wait until after orientation before I buy anything. I believe at text express across from cyfair campus you can get your stethoscope on your student account if you have financial aid. They are really helpful over there and their book prices are great!

hi Stephalump, how long did it take for your blue card to come thru?

I need yall's opinion. I had a physical done last year in August and my insurance only allows one physical per year. should I use the results of the current physical or should I have a physical done though will have to pay out of pocket (ouch). What do you think?

Angenoir I would probly keep the old physical, however Walgreens does it for $69

Angenoir, I think I did it on the 2nd? So it only took a week. No big. I'm not sure about the physical...I'd wait until orientation and ask. Or email and ask. Looking at the form online, it's kind of specific with the physical requirements of nursing and the physician is supposed to be signing that he thinks you're capable, so I'd assume you have to do it again or beg your doctor to just fill it out and sign it since he's already seen you. But I don't really know.

@ Stephalump, I did mine on the 5th so probably it will come in sometime next week. The doctor has already filled it out and signed it but just wanted to be sure.

Oh yeah, for sure your card will be here soon! I was afraid it would take ages because of how early the school wants you to get started with it, but I guess that's just in case something pops up and you have to do all the extra stuff.

Who's going to orientation Thursday at NH?
