Internship/residency search for new grad

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello!

I am looking for an internship/residency program in the DFW area. I have spent quite a bit of time searching the internet, and have had very little luck! I am just wondering if anyone has any tips for searching for an intern/residency position. Is there a website that has them listed altogether...maybe??

Thanks everyone!

Specializes in SICU.

Parkland, Baylor, and UT Southwestern all have internships/residencies for new grads. Sometimes they aren't so good at posting all of the openings on their websites. Your best bet would be to call the nursing recruitment offices directly so that they can tell you what they have available.

Thanks. I will look at their websites and will start making calls tomorrow. Hopefully, I will have an internship soon! I'm so excited to start working!!

Thanks so much

I don't know when you're available to work, but there are a few hospital systems that have September internships. Baylor e-mailed the people in my May '08 class saying that they still have openings. JPS and Harris downtown Fort Worth have them as well. The Harris one that I know about is a rotational med/surg internship where you rotate through all of the units before you choose where you want to work.

Good luck!

Kristin

Great! I am available to work now. I just looked at the baylor website and was able to apply online.

Has anyone heard anything about Baylor internships?

Thanks!!

Any in places other than the Dallas-Ft. Worth area?

I'm a recent grad who may end up applying in TX if I can't find something closer to home.

What area are you interested in? They have several speciality areas open so I think it depends on where you want to go. Some positions have been filled and others they're still doing interviews. They usually do a phone interview first to see where you want to go and find out your gpa. You can also give them a call to see what's the status of your application. Everyone I've spoken to in the HR dept has been very nice and helpful.

HTH and good luck.

I just requested information from St. Lukes in Houston: http://www.sleh.com/sleh/Section004/index.cfm?pagename=NursingResidencyatStLukes&PageMD=CAREERS

Looks like a decent program.

Here's the site for Memorial Hermann: http://www.memorialhermann.org/careers/NursingIntern.htm

I am a new grad and work at Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital. There are some GN/RN Internships starting in September. The hospital is part of the Texas Health Resources hospital system. Go to www.texashealth.org to look for openings.

Good luck!

I have a question...what ever happened to just gettiong a job? Residencies and internships...in the old days we just went out and found a job as a GN and once we passed the boards we were RN's. Seemed like a system that used to work for years...

For the competitive slots (NICU, PEDS, OR, ER), it's easiest to get a position there if you've gone through the hospital's internship for that particular area.

Also, hospitals are learning that you don't know anything about nursing when you leave nursing school, and decided to stop just throwing people to the sharks and letting them sink or swim.
