Houston Community College ADN program 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Hi to everyone! I have a couple of questions about hcc adn program.

First how many students do they accept for the fall semester?

If you have taken pharm at another school do they accept the class or will I have to take their pharm class?

How do they rank applicants ( Point system etc)

Is it really hard to get into their program? ( sorry I know that may seem dumb to ask)

I have finished all of the required pre reqs fairly good grades I have 2 C's. I took pharm at lonestar college. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks alot!

I'm not sure about HCC, but what classes did you get C's in? That'll make a big difference when applying to any school. It depends on the classes. All the nursing schools usually want A's in AP1, AP2, and Microbio. Any less, and getting accepted will be tougher. Also, if you're stressing about getting in to one nursing school in particular, just apply to several, that way you have options. All nursing schools are extremely competitive. I know all of Lone Star's schools accept from 40 to 150 a year depending on the school and the particular year, and San Jac accepts like 120. These are based on anywhere from 300-600 applicants a year. So, I'm sure HCC is like every other school where tons of applicants get cut. I'm attending Lone Star Kingwood right now and am applying the the ADN there and at San Jac. There's nothing listed on their website as to a point system, so you might want to e-mail someone there and just ask your questions directly to them, since they have accurate info on exact cutoffs of 2010 and whatnot. They SHOULD accept your pharmacology grade as long as you made a C or better, so I don't think you should worry too much about that.

Well i am in my second semester at HCC and it is not that hard to get in. Yes they take other colleges pharm, i took my pharm at lone star as well, and they dont do any kind of interview or point system. They usually except the students with the better grades, but they will take the student who has everything completed over the students with the better grades. They told us not to worry about the C's, worry about completing everything. You have everything done so all you have to do is call and schedule to take their math. You have to retake the math test and pass it with a score of 90, then they will consider your app. I took pham fall of 2008, took HCC math exam in like April of 2009, got excepted in late June. I dont have all A's in my pre-reqs. I had a C in lifespan,B in Engl and a&p 1. People get the conception that it is hard to get into HCC but as long as you have all of your courses taken its pretty much easy from that point on. Good luck

Oh yea HCC usually excepts about 100 each semester and they have day and evening classes.

RN2B11 thanks for the info very helpful! I have a question. I took pharm in Fall 08 semester. Is this still good because don't they expire w/in 2yrs?

Yes it should be still good, up until fall of this year. If you schedule your math test this semester and past, you have a very good chance of getting accepted for the fall semester. They are just going to check to see if you have taken Pharm within the past 2 years and if you passed it.

Ok thanks I will be applying this semester and I hope I will get in!

Good Luck!!!!!!!

Rn2b11,

Hi, I am interested in HCC's ADN program also. This is my first year in college and I'm curious about their cost. Do they still charge by credit hour in the ADN program or is it completely different? Also, since I'm starting from scratch, approximately how long will it take before I can get into the program if I'm going as a full time student each semester, spring and summer? Possibly even taking a mini session class.

Do you think it's possible to be ready to get in the fall semester?

Oh and, is the RN program only offered at the Coleman campus?

Thanks.

I'm also interested in HCC's RN program. Do they take hesi schores from other colleges? Which parts of te hesi do you have to take? Will have my AS at the end of this semester so yeah, I have a lot of classes done and have A's in every bio class and most other classes also. I have yet to make anything lower than a B. I guess i'm basically asking how and what is needed to get into HCC's RN program.

Thanks

Thangbom321,

just curious, are you by any chance Khmer? Lol
