Group One background checks in Texas

I have been put into group one, which is a reporting agency that allows other healthcare facilitys to see why I was terminated. I was not given a chance to resign before termination. My question is, can I request to have it changed? Is this a type of discrimination? all this is making me want to get out of healthcare all together, seems like i will allways have a disadvantage being a guy and all.

You have to remember they are not an employer, they are a "consumer reporting agency". wink wink. My understanding is in Texas that when you call an employer the only info they can give is dates of employment and eligibility for rehire. Honestly, you can work happily for many years and never have any issues, but those nurses who have worked in toxic enviroments and for toxic managers realize how any minor error or personality issue can be used to "justify" firing employee and GroupOne is a tool that in the wrong hands can be used to add salt to the wound. Personally, I beleive there is such an organization in other states not just Texas.

I have been trying to find info on this today - so how freaky you guys happen to be discussing it. I went to work for a hospital 2 summers ago but quit during orientation because I couldn't get my schedule to work out with school. So I was reported to group one. I would like to know why we don't have the right to be notified if this happens and how long it stays on your record. I tried to get a job at another hospital and they hired me, blah, blah, blah, and then found this group one thing. How does all this work? I am in texas.

I told a friend today about group one. She attempted to go to the site and it is not there. I have tried several times to go to the site and it comes up as not able to locate. It is still listed on google. It seems a little suspicious.:uhoh21: :uhoh21: :uhoh21: :uhoh21:

The website is http://www.gp1.com - I contacted the Texas BNE about this and there is nothing they can do to help. The did give me the name of an attorney who could help though if anyone is interested.

That is the site we both tried to go to, directly and through google.

No server or no site list every time. I have been to it before and told her about it. She called me back to say she could not find it. I went on to check and found the same message she had.?????

Thank God I'm a praying woman or they would have ruined me.

My credit savvy friends helped me use the law and deal with them like any collection agency or Credit reporting agency (which is all Group one is).

As network TV receives ad money from insurance companies, etc., most will not get involved any pronurse or proratio issues....it would damage their bottom line and could get them boycotted by for profit affiliates.

As well as the "sensationalism" issue. Issues like "Killer Nurses/Malpractice Docs" attract the public attention and connect with the audience. Issues like being unfair as far as whether a bad job review was merited or not doesn't pay the ad bucks...and may also hit too close to home.

This is part of the problem with publicising Nursing issues. We are just not as exciting to the public as Firemen (Rescue Me), Policemen (Cops), or Doctors (House, Grey's Anatomy, ER, Chicago Hopeless, etc.).

It's sad and unfair. But TV wants to make the bucks and pushes what pays.

Does anyone know how far back the hospitals go when they are doing a background check from Group One? I've heard that they go back just 7 years but I could be wrong. Do the hospitals still use Group One? Any info would be great.

There are several threads about Group One. If you do a search, I'm sure you will find it. Basically they are a consumer reporting agency that reports any work history to future employers along with a background check and I think a credit check.

That must be what they are doing on me. They said they are doing a check back 7 years and a credit check. I already gave them personal references and have nothing really to hide. My nurse manager and I have some personal issues so hope they don't call her. My evals were good though so hopefully that will be good enough.

Group One goes way back. I sent for my record and it referred to an incident (left with 1 week notice due to childcare emergency) in the 80's.

There's many threads here on Group One if you run a search. I have joked here before: bankruptcy is forgiven after 7 yrs but Group One is forever. The gift that keeps on giving. The DFW Hospital Association controls DFW nurses with a very heavy hand and a very long memory of ANY supposed wrongdoing that a manager or HR wants to submit, many for vindictive purposes .:(
