Austin Community College Fall 2012 hopefuls

Anyone out there who would like to commiserate about waiting anxiously to be accepted to the ACC ADN program in the fall 2012 semester?

Have you received your petition for Nursing skills yet? Pre-reqs and co-reqs completed?

Hope to hear from some of you (or all) soon!

I applied for the first time fall 2012...silly me!...I thought I would make it.

They only took 147 applicants I had 53.5 points and they only took 57.3 and higher, with my points I was ranked around 250. If I reapplied for the next semester and the 5 extra points that they'll give just for reapplying I would have 58.5.....hopefully that will be enough.

I am really happy to have found this forum! It's great to read that others are going through the same process. I applied to start in the Spring of 2013 to the ACC ADN Traditional Track. I am number 157 and have 57.55 points and did not get an acceptance for the first round of provisional acceptance letters. I did get petitioned to register for Nursing Skills and am starting that class today. I am curious what the deadline is for those who did receive and acceptance letter to either decline or defer. Does anyone have any insight on that? Thanks so much!

Hope everyone is doing great this semester!

I am finally starting the program this coming jan as hybrid. I was wondering if you could recommend teachers for the first semester of level 1. I know there is only 2 professors in hybrid but wanted to get some info before I register.

Thanks! And good luck to all :)

Hey everyone! Well I got accepted into the Alternate Track for the ADN program and will be starting level 2 at CEC in January! I am so excited. However, I am also really nervous starting the program from level two. I was just curious if anyone currently in CEC (in any level) would be willing to talk with me more about CEC and what to expect? Also wondering if anyone would be going to labs during the break to practice for the mastery check off (in level 1). I am waiting for my lab pack to arrive but am unsure how different the skills may be done during the ADN program vs how they were done during the LVN program. Feel free to message me on here and I can give you my personal email. I appreciate any replies.

Hi Everyone,

I feel so discouraged. I am not planning to apply to the nursing program until next June, but based on my calculations I will be able to apply with 48 pts: I will be on that waiting list for who knows how long. Has anyone had to apply more than twice? What did you do on the mean time while you were waiting? Should I re-take some of my pre-reqs to raise the gpa, I have almost all B's and a couple of A's?

I'm using my wait time to complete a few prereq's I need for the Tech online RN to BSN Program. If you want to work for the Seton network you will need to get your BSN anyway....might as well use this time to take care of those classes.

Yes, use this time to take BSN courses since it looks like ACC is heading in the direction of requiring those courses like government, history, literature, and technical writing for acceptance into their program so it can be a quick and easy transition to an ADN-BSN course.

Just wondering... As far as ease and cost go... Is the tech program the way to go?

ruddergirl... it seems in my experience that most people I have talked to from ACC are either doing UTA or Tech's program. Tech has an advantage in that they have an articulation agreement with ACC and therefore you are basically guaranteed to get in if you graduate from ACCs program and pass the NCLEX. UTA has an advantage in that you can start the program without having all of the pre-reqs done. However, there are 18 general education courses to take a UTA, vs 16 at Tech. However, Tech requires Chemistry as one of them and UTA does not. It says on the UTA site that the cost for 35 credit hours is $8.995, which as I understand, does not include if you take pre-reqs there. The Tech program is 30 credit hours and looks to cost around $7,600, but that's if it really does cost $1,000 per semester for books. I am starting ACC's program in Spring in Level 2 (alt entry) and plan on finishing my pre-reqs this summer and starting Tech's program as soon after passing the NCLEX as possible. I have heard great things about both programs but feel as though Tech will be the best fit for me. Additionally, I had a teacher in the LVN program who completed Tech's RN-BSN and BSN-MSN programs and had nothing but great things to say. She finished the programs working full time and has 6 kids so I feel that it would be really doable.

Thank you so much for responding!

Yeah and I work with an RN who is in charge of our chemo room and she was in ACC's first RN graduating class in the 1970's. She just recently within the last 2 years decided to go back and get her BSN through UTA since our work has an academic partnership with them and she had a seamless transition. She always tells me, if she can do it after all those years being out of school then anyone can! lol

Hey, another question for you..... Do you know if st David's has a tuition reimbursement program? Wondering if I could work for them and have them help pay for the BSN program too?
