U.S.A. Tennessee

Hello! I'm starting my nursing classes in Spring 2013! I'm looking for any students that are starting so we can talk about classes, professors and study groups and study tips!

Hey Is this thread still alive?[/quote']

Lol! I think I'm talking to myself on this thread but yes it's still alive!

That sounds awesome about you passing your first med-surg exam. @t Jessieleleb. When is your expected graduation date? I start my clinicals summer 14. I'll be going into health assessment in the spring though. I would love to hear about your experiences from time to time when you have a chance. It will certainly help me know what the classes are like and what to expect. Since you have started your nursing classes how much time do you spend a day on studying? is more or same as usual? are the professors straightforward on what is going to be on your exam?

Sorry so late! I started spring 13 so I'm finish dec 14 hopefully with no set backs! I love to talk about my experience! Well health assessment was interesting but hated the test! The skills are super helpful in the clinical setting! Studying in health assessment is nothing compared to med-surg but it's more like you have so many things to do within the week! I usually study about 8hrs a day a week before the exam, prob cuz I'm lazy and put stuff off... Your supposed to studying a little here and there everyday but who has time for all that!!! The professors are straight forward in fact more straight forward that the health assessment teacher!

I didn't take it at that school heard it was hard but doable if you can take hooker, hear he's great!

Hi @dee1548

I just wanted to add onto the information about hooker. Yes i heard he is great. Additionally someone told me he uses powerpoint and to make sure i bring a recorder. She said because i will need to review what was said in the class. I dont know if he speaks loud enough or talks to fast it was a short convo. But with so much hype surrounding his name he has to be a good professor im guessing. I will be taking hooker for patho for the fall but not because I heard he is great because I also heard many good things about McDonald also but because it fits my schedule is the main reason. So I will found how good he is fall trimester.

@t jessieleleb

Its ok. Well I'm glad summer trimester is over whew! Didn't make the grade I wanted but I passed micro. As time is approaching for health assessment I'm getting a little nervous. This fall trimester is probably going to go by as fast as the summer. did you pass your classes? 8 hours a day is a lot but i understand. Did yo have a study group. Also sorry about the bold letters I'm using my tablet and the ttouch is acting up.

I just finished my patho class this summer and I will say no matter who you take it will be a challenge. Use the advice you heard and you will be fine. Your recorder will be your best friend and use it frequently.

Yup passed all my classes Adult 2 and Research here I come! Yes I have a study group it helps to have ppl around you that are very motivated! The trimester goes by pretty fast once you start! And congrats on passing micro, I hated micro! Don't be worried for health assessment is very passable as long as you do good on the papers and skills check off you will be fine! And yea I did about 8 hours a day but every one is different you may need more or less just depends on your learning and studying style. Let me no if you have more questions!

@t dooney123

Yeah i totally agree with you on that. Since you just finished patho, I wanted to try and get a headstart did you use any other books beside the required book? Also is there anything that you would suggest to review before entering the class such as anatomy of the heart or anything similar? Hello BTW.

@t jessilleb

Same to you on a successful trimester? Oh yeah my next question would be are you employed. The reason I asked because recently I ran across some one and they were like it was impossible to have a job and do the work . Of course its to each is own I guess I said that phrase right lol! But anyways just curious if you were employed and if it balances out for you or not.

YES I am employed and I know a few people that are also working while in school. Most work part time or overnight. I work weekends and prn during the week. Yes it can be crazy to work and do school at the same time but I have no choice but to work I live on my own. That being said I work in supportive living which gives me time in my job to actually study. It's not easy and sometimes I wish I didn't have to work but some days I'm actually bored if I have no work or school work to do. The balance is to know when you are pushing it when it comes to too much work and not enough school. I have also seen ppl fail bc of outside activities getting in the way of school. I have called off a few times when I knew I had to study more than I could fit it in with working.

I'm a transfer Baptist student. I'm currently taking Health Assessment. I hope everyone is off to a great start this fall trimester.
