I failed the Teas for the 2nd time,

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

I have failed the Teas twice, once i didnt study, and the second time i studied but obviously not hard enough. I am considering not even bothering again, i feel like an idiot. I really dont know the best way to study for this test, i have the ati book but it didnt help much. I used quizlet and that was apparently not the answer. I studied hard with quizlet for two weeks and bombed. Im looking for some really good advice on how to kick this tests butt. I have been a PCT for two years and i love it but i really wanted to expand my profession so i can help more people. Any suggestions?

How did you study for the second test? And for how long?? Were you just reading stuff? Or did you go over the types of questions and topics you missed a lot in? I thought the ATI book was really helpful actually...

I took it THREE times before I finally passed on my fourth. The first time I failed science but that was because I hadn't taken the science course that the TEAs related to. Then the next two times I failed reading. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing the online ATI quizzes. You are able to take them each two times and after the first time it tells you what areas to focus and study on that are found in the ATI book. I found it harder than the actual exam which I think helped me on the actual exam day. Also spend atleast 30 min/day for atleast 3 weeks studying, reviewing, taking the online and book practices tests. What sections are you not passing? Trust me I 100000% relate to the giving up mentality but you have gone this far! And also the moment I passed was seriously such a boost of self confidence (even though it took me so many times haha). It definitely taught me how to study better and smarter as well!

The online ATI tests are very good to prepare. The question on whether to "bother" or not is up to you. Some schools won't let you apply if you've failed the TEAS twice, others don't care. Before you pay for it again I would really try to evaluate WHY you are scoring low. Do you understand the material but not the testing method? Or do you simply not understand the material.

I have failed all four sections twice.. it seems as if everything i studied was not evem on the test. Science i missed by one point this last time, reading and language by five and math i just bombed but im terrible at math. My plan was to pass the three and then focus on math but that didnt happen. I feel very defeated and stupid..

It sounds like you need to spend a lot more time studying then. Maybe even hire a tutor or if there is a tutoring center at your school then go there. It's a lot of material and if you haven't learned the material in class then you will be teaching yourself which is a lot of work, but doable! Take it section by section and make sure you are not just memorizing. Know he material. Khanacademy.com has great videos for the science and math parts too.

Do not lose hope! I had to retake mine and it really feels good once you pass it. Just keep studying and taking it! Don't think that this isn't for you just because you failed two times now. Keep pushing! I can help if you want. :)

I passed simply by manipulating the numbers. Basically reading and science is the majority of the test. Focus on those two portions and continue to break them down. For instance majority or your science score falls in life and earth science so work on that first. Then work on reading where majority falls in informational sources. Then move on to math where majority of your score falls in order of operations. Then go to English where grammer and word meanings means the most. Just pick up points in the sections that count. Also I would suggest khan academy for science and math inconjunction with the ati guide.

ATI provides a list of what topics you should review in the book when your results are out. I'd recommend looking at the list and seeing what you need to review. For math, I'd suggest working on the problems in the TEAS study guide as well as looking up similar problems online. Khan Academy is a great resource for science. I found McGraw Hill's 5 TEAS Tests and the online ATI practice exams helpful.

I'm unsure of as to why you found the study manual not useful as I found the TEAS to almost just spit out questions based on the info included in the book. As you've taken it multiple times now there should be no new surprises. Rededicate yourself to knowing the book inside out and I know you at the very least should pass. If not I'm not sure what other advice I could offer up as my experience largely if not entirely mirrored what I had read in the manual. There are videos on YouTube where a professor goes through either I believe it is the math or science section (might be the entire book) page by page. Check that out

I just took my TEAS exam for the "first" time and passed in the 96th percentile. The first official time I took it the website went down after I took 3 of the 4 parts. The first time I only barely studied with the ATI test booklet, but after seeing the exam I decided to study some more. You have a great advantage by taking the test twice you know what type of questions they will ask. I would say the most helpful thing to do is really focus on the parts that are not your strong suit. Science was by far the most difficult area so start there and then Math. Youtube has some really good videos I watched a lot of crash course and Khan Academy. Then invest in the ATI practice test, there are some of the same questions on the exam.

Math was oddly the worst section for myself also! I highly recommend getting the book with all the practice tests. If you just feel defeated, find a school that doesn't require you to take it! My score was sub-par so I just decided to not use it at all in my applications.
