Possible to Work FT While Pursuing CRNA?

Is it possible to attend CRNA school AND work FT (e.g., three 12-hour shifts per week)? I can't see taking two years off without work while attending school. (I've been working FT while taking my RN prerequsites and expect to do so while in nursing school.)

Thank you!

From everything I've read, you'll be darn lucky to have time to eat/sleep/breathe during the CRNA program. Don't plan on having ANY "spare" time to work.

No, it is not possible and most programs will not let you work FT. Your education is more important than work at this time. That is why you need to prepare financially for anesthesia school before you apply.

Sonoran,

I worked FT, and had a part-time job the ENTIRE time I was in school, plus had plenty of time to screw around and have family time. That was RN school.

I can tell you first hand, that you WILL NOT have time for anything other than school and some weekend time for family while in CRNA school. We had a couple of people in my class that attempted to work Pt on weekends when school started. The one that lasted 5 weeks doing that was the longest. There is so much more to conceputalize and understand in CRNA school, that you will not be in good health if you choose to do well in school and hold a job. Furthermore, you may be cheating any future patients my marginalizing you time dedicated to education, provided you were able to pass while working.

Take it from me, I was a multiple job havin' work-a-holic before CRNA school. CRNA school is the time to FULLY dedicate yourself to eductaion and your future patients that will placing their lives in your hands.

If you haven't saved much, there are PLENTY of loans out there to be had.

PM me if you have any specific questions.

I worked once a week during my didactic class ( 1 year ) but during my clinical phase, I was so tired I ended up quitting my PRN job the first week of clinicals.

it IS possible to work, especially during didactic.. harder during clinical, especially when you are there 4 days a week from before sunrise to near after sunset... you may have weekends free, but work would be farthest from my mind at that time. if you DO decide to work while in school, DO NOT let any of the instructors know. with that being said, it also depends on the type of student you are. some are in the library 24/7.. i managed to satisfy my requirements and had ample time to goof off as well.. to some, it just comes easier than others.. you will figure it out~

I guess the time requirements of your school may play a part as well. I commend DFK for being able to work.

This is great advice, if you'd like to be dismissed from a program. Many require that you advise them if/how much you work, and by lying to them you are open to disclipinary action. Your chance for success in school goes up astronomically if you are a full time student.
