Hello,

I recently just changed my career around, I was in business and I am now going to Nursing school (and loving it) and my goal in life is to become a Nurse Anesthetist.

I have a Bachelor's in Business and plan to go into critical care for 5 yrs before I start my journey as a CRNA...my question is: Do I need a BSN or does my BSB fit because a Bachelor degree is required but does it matter in what?? Also do I need the MSN?? I am not getting a BSN in nursing I am getting an associate in Nursing- RN.

Could I just go from RN to MSN because of my BSB or do I need the BSN first???

I hope this makes sense what I am inquiring, I am just a little confuse. :stone

If you haven't already, read the sticky notes on the top of the messages. They share a lot of information.

Some programs accept you with a bachelor's plus associate degree in nursing, but you are really limiting your choices of school and would not be able to apply to schools which offer a MSN. Check out www.aana.com for further info on accredited programs to check out requirements for schools you may be applying to.

Most require that the BS be in a science field, such as chemistry or biology.

I am in a similar situation as I have a Bachelor's in Business. If you plan on going to Northeastern or BC, you need the BSN for either. I am doing the online RN-BSN through the university of Wyoming to cover my bases. If I do the NP route, it wasn't necessary, but for the CRNA, almost every school requires it. Where are you doing your RN? I am at Massasoit.

Oh really.... I am going to Brockton Hospital School of Nursing, right down the street from Massasoit.

Do you know if the online BSN program expensive?

Hi! I actually went to this school for a year......they are non accredited ..and I found out the hard way when I transferred to another nursing program..... none of the credits were transferrable..only the fisher college credits There are a few instructors to be very wary of [EVIL][/EVIL] , they will make your life a living nightmare :uhoh3: ......one is CK...... and because of this instructor I left there because this person will pick out one person in every group she has and make their clinicals an absolute horror show....it seems like this person gets a kick out of beating down people....and the group I was in ...every student noticed it & even mentioned it...so be very very careful! The other instructors I had besides this person were really good though..... anyway whan are you graduating? I would of graduated from there in 2003 if it wasn't for that one person.....I actually had panic attacks from what I had to deal with.....but got phenomenal reviews from the rest of the instructors.......My college I am at now all the insrtuctors are above & beyond & really are great ..and actually tell you that you are doing a great job..they don't demean you over minor garbage that noone cares about........Good luck there! :balloons:

of Wyoming is very inexpensive. About $190 a credit hour. I did a rotation at Brockton last spring.

Oh really! That is surprising to me but ya know things change b/c I do not recognize CK and the instructors now are awesome and I never hear about complaints like that. I really like BHSN but they are expensive so I was wondering what I would do for my second BSN degree. I graduate in May 2007!!! One more yr, thank goodness

Your bestbet is to contact the schools you are interested in. My school, UT knoxville, required a BSN for admission, which i recieved, funny enough at Northeastern University, in boston mass. Call the program and ask them point blank whatthey want, they are usually more than willing to help out.

I have a simular situation:

I am submitting my aplication to University of Alabama,Burmingham into the 4 year BSN program.

After compleeting that and passing the NCLEX,I plan to work at UAB Medical Center in the burn/ trauma unit,as I was told direct from the CRNA director,that this is the "best" place to be gaining experence,but it was not the only place. I had considered NURO/ICU or CCICU.

While at school working to get my RN,I was thinking of getting a job at UABMC as an anesthesia tech.,that would at least put me in the area I want to be in meeting other CRNA's and doctors.

Then after all that and getting as much certification as I can,put in my application to the UAB Nursing Anesthesia program.

What do y'all think? UAB is a very competative program to get into,is this a reasonable plan of action?Please give me your input

Sounds like a good plan. My only comment would be that if you really want to be a CRNA, why just choose one school, especially one that is really competitive to get into? there are 90 some odd programs in the US; i would hate to see you not follow through with your dream because you only applied to one and got rejected.
