CCRN exam

Wondering if anyone has recently taken the CCRN exam. How was it? I can imagine that it is tough. What book did you use to study (if any @ all). Thanx

I took it (and passed it) last October. It wasn't as bad as I expected, but there were parts, like the NCLEX, where it wasn't obvious what the correct answer was. I told myself those were the experimental questions :). I used Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio's DVDs and Pass CCRN. If you have a couple years' experience, the cardiac and respiratory stuff should be mostly things you already know.

jls189,

I thought the CCRN exam was really easy. Watch Laura Gasparis's DVDS, this gives you just about all the information you will need. I do suggest getting the PASS CCRN book for a reference, it has way more information than you need, but is good to use to read up on things you need to be refreshed on. The main reason to get the PASS CCRN book is for the DVD questions, DO THESE QUESTIONS! I studied for about a week and a half, I watched the DVDS, reviewed, and took loads of practice questions. Took the test, passed. It's not as hard as everyone would have you believe...:nuke:

I took it in March and passed. I studied (lightly) for about 2 months total, but really started digging into the study materials about 1 month before the exam. It is definitely tough, but it's not that bad if you are prepared and have solid clinical experience to pull from. I used the Laura Gasparis DVD review course (awesome, HIGHLY recommend!)--you can find it at www.greatnurses.com.

I also used the Pass CCRN CD-ROM practice questions....which was extremely helpful. It helped tremendously to take the practice exams and then read through the rationales afterward.

You should also try searching "CCRN" on allnurses...there have been numerous posts on this topic and you might find some helpful information in your searches.

Good luck!

I bought two books from AACN, but I can't tell you which ones they were. One of them was full of practice questions. I used that one a little bit. The best thing that I did to prepare me for CCRN was a CCRN review course. I can't mention the names of the speakers at the review, but it was in Fort Walton Beach, FL. They do this particular course every September. Let me know if you are interested. It was awesome. I passed the CCRN with plenty of cushion. I wouldn't say that it was easy. The other thing about the review course is that I still remember alot of that information and apply it to my studies while in CRNA school.

I was super easy.....I studied for three days and all I did was watch the Laura Gasparis videos. There are six and I watched two on Monday, two on Tuesday, and two on Wednesday...then I took the test on Thursday and did very well. She teaches you all you need to know.

Where did you get the videos from?

I took it last August. I had bought Robin Donohoe Dennison's Pass CCRN (when I graduate RN school in 2002) for reference. It served me well. My husband insisted I take the test (or I wouldn't have taken it without studying). I read through the book once. I focused a little more on the Cardiac portion. The book is great for review and reference. I had quite a few PA questions. I completed the test with about 87 % accuracy. It gives you a printout immediately afterward. I think the practice tests from that book were WAY harder than the real test. Good luck! You should do fine.

Thank you sooo much to all who applied to my post. All posts were very helpful. I will definately look into the suggested dvd's.

For those of you that suggested the Laura Gasparis's DVDS, could you tell where you got them? I looked online @ Borders, Amazon, and Ebay. I only found audio cassettes. Thanks:nuke:
