UMass Boston- is there smething I'm missing??

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

I've been researching the FNP program at UMass Boston and considering applying there for the Fall 2014 semester.

It seems like the best financial decision, but I have not heard much either way regarding the program. Is it competitive to get into? Is there something I'm missing. I've looked at other schools and some are nearly double the price...

Hoping for some feedback for others that have attended or have thoughts...

Thanks

What other schools have you been looking into? Most of the other nursing programs in Boston are at private universities which are more expensive than public ones.

New program with a solid faculty.

Very competitive as are all Boston NP programs save one, which you should avoid.

BostonFNP, could you mention which one should be avoided? I'm hoping to apply for next year and I feel like I don't have a clue. Is there one Boston school that's really bad, and could you explain why? I appreciate it!

I've also looked into Regis and MGHIHP, but am weary of applying related to the cost of such programs. Pardon the cliché: I'd hate to put all my eggs in one basket, but I may have to.

I guess I'm glad to hear it's competitive BostonFNP and not at the same time, as I may have a tough time getting in but that's to be expected.

I'm also curious as to which school to avoid? Thoughts?

I don't want to mention the school name as to not offend prior grads, as I am sure some of them are quite competent. It is my opinion that one program is significantly subpar to the rest in the region based on experience with new grads, reviews from colleagues, etc. I obviously never attended the program and can not speak first hand to its quality.

If you were to search reviews you may come across the answer.

Now I'm wondering if I went to the crappy school..lol

Thirteengirl- where did you go to school if you don't mind me asking?

Cost is a big factor, but I don't want to go to a "bad" school either...

Is UMASS boston online?

I looked into the FNP program at UMass Boston as a post-masters certificate student. Having earned both my MSN (PMHNP) and DNP predominately online, I am pretty familiar with how online programs work. After a few interactions with the program staff/advisors, I quickly lost interest. I found that they weren't quick to respond to e-mails (strange for an online program) and further found that their responses rarely ever answered my questions. I got the feel that there isn't much of an individual approach to student interactions and that they are a bit more commercial/business oriented than they are student centered. This was only my initial experience in exploring the program and I have no experiences with the quality of instruction, etc. I think that it largely depends on what you are looking for from a program, but I would encourage you to reach out to the advisors at any program you are considering and get a feel for the environment, also don't hesitate to reach out to faculty at the program as well - I have found this to be a great barometer of the experience you will have as a student. Best of luck!

I am in my second semester in at WALDEN university. This school really cares about their students. I get a call from my advisors atleast once a semester, they ask how I am doing and if I ma having an trouble with my classes. The faculty is really nice and its the best decision I made in my life, it is really geared towards the working adults you will be able to juggle works, family. This school is becoming very popular as they have a waiting list now.

Stay away from Umass Boston program. They don't tell you they won't sign an affiliation contract with your facility and wants your facility to sign their contract. I have proof they do not even attempt to negotiate with your facility..they wait till 2 weeks before the semester starts and tells they couldn't arrive at an agreement-and it's two late to find another in such short notice. The director is very unprofessional and refuses to be held accountable for the program. RUN --don't-- walk away...
