I've been researching the FNP program at UMass Boston and considering applying there for the Fall 2014 semester.
It seems like the best financial decision, but I have not heard much either way regarding the program. Is it competitive to get into? Is there something I'm missing. I've looked at other schools and some are nearly double the price...
Hoping for some feedback for others that have attended or have thoughts...
Thanks
Hi, I do believe there is some assistance. However, I was told that I am better off finding placement myself. I was also told by prior students that I am better off finding my own. I am currently in the Adult/Gero program at UMass Boston and my first practicum will be in the spring semester. So, I am asking around now. Anyway, something to keep in mind.
My experience at UMASS Boston has also been a nightmare. I found my preceptors. I submitted the information to the school in June. In September, on the day classes start they still hadn't given me clearance. When I asked them why said that they have been unable to reach the clinical site. Really??? And you couldn't have told me that in any the previous months prior to the start of the course?
They were unapologetic. Do not go to this program. They don't care students.

I went to Simmons College as an undergraduate and I must say it's a great college! However, the amount of debt I accumulated, I always question whether it was worth it. Now I am in graduate school and I purposly avoided Simmons solely because of cost. I am in the AGNP program at UMass Boston, which was just smarter for me financially. The professors have been good so far and I believe at UMass Boston everyone gets a pretty good education and as I said before, you can't beat the price. So, it's really up to you and your financial situation. You'll get a good education regardless. One thing I can say though is that I believe Simmons helps find clinical placements for practicum (don't quote me on that). However, I have been told by UMass students and staff that I will have to find my own placement so I'm going crazy searching for one now.
