TWU NPs or RN-MS students networking?

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

I just finished adv patho online for my RN-MS. Now I'm registering for online leadership & mgmt. I've been searching for a thread or facebook page where online TWU NP and RN-MS students share experiences, advice, wisdom, support, etc. the way everyone easily does on campus. Online classes are great except for the isolation! So does anyone know where TWU NP students network? If not, let's make a place and spread the word!

Great idea. Too bad no one else has joined in. I have been accepted to the FNP program at Dallas campus.

Congratulations! Yeah, I'd really like to hear about people's experiences. What are you taking your first semester? Did you get your RN-BSN at TWU? If so, I'm curious about Leadership and Mgt. I have it online thru the Parkland campus with Dr. B. MyEdu reports only 14% A's in that class. I've only completed adv. patho online thru the Houston campus, but I'd be happy to provide info if you need it. We need more peeps!

I did my BSN at Tech but since I live in Dallas area I thought it might be better to do my MSN locally for a greater level of support. I haven't been able to reach my advisor yet so I'm sitting here trying to plot out a degree plan. I'm thinking of taking Theoretical Foundations, Patho, and Assessment first semester, Family Health I, Nursing Role, Policy and Health Promotion, and Pharmacotherapies second semester. Third semester would be Family Health II and Research/Quality Improvement. Does this sound doable or am I out of my kind lol?

Alternatively I might just take Theoretical Foundations, Research, and Pharmacotherapies first semester and spread it out a bit. I'm not sure what people generally do for full time load.

Wow, yeah, those sound like heavy loads. I'm part time , but my experience has been that your advisor works up your degree plan and for the most part you follow it. Some classes are only offered certain semesters. I think Assessment is only in the spring. Not TWU specific, but info I've gathered here suggests taking a light load with classes like pharm, patho, and research if possible. That's one of the things I'd like to hear about from TWU students who've gone thru those classes already. As far as adv. patho, the research I did for the projects, essay exams and weekly discussions expanded to fill whatever time I had, but I'm sure others spent far less time and still got an A or at least a B. Overkill is my weakness.

Hello 3wishes,

I will be taking advanced patho online this summer at the Dallas location. I am not sure if the instructors are the same but could you please give me so advice on how to pass this class. I am so worried because I know that Patho can be challenge. Any advice would be beneficial.

Thanks in advance

I'm jumping in, just to follow this post. I will be applying to TWU Denton campus by the September deadline. I'm leaning toward RN-MS (non-nursing BS) but I have to dig around a bit more. My goal is FNP or WHNP.

I'm jumping in too and have applied to the FNP program at both Dallas and Denton for Spring 2015. I am currently in the MSN-Ed program and am switching tracks so I have already taken Theory and Research. Both courses are a lot of work but doable together and I'm happy to answer any specific questions about either.

I'm registered for Pharm and Health Promo in the Fall and am also looking for info on Pathophysiology and Assessment as those will be next then the fun stuff is right around the corner! I'm debating to do Pathophysiology online vs in the classroom so would love some input from others that have completed it. All of my MSN-Ed courses have been online and I really miss the campus interaction. The discussion board and online group work can be brutal so I'm wondering how the coursework/testing in an on-campus course (Pathophysiology) might be different. Thanks in advance!

Sorry 2017, my class was out of Houston (Denton didn't offer online adv patho spring 2014, and Dallas was on campus). I've seen a few older threads describing TWU adv patho courses very differently than what I experienced, so YMMV. We were assigned 6 to a group to do 2 PP presentations relating to a dz (our choice) from certain chapters, one due before midterm, one after, with APA citations. Each week a group presented its PP and 4 'points to ponder' on the discussion board and the rest of the class had to post 3 comments per person, with APA citations, and the group had to respond. Basically, we were teaching each other. So no two classes will have covered the exact same topics or learned the same info, but everyone will (should!) know how to find EB, peer-reviewed, scholarly sources on anything thrown at you! The midterm and final were 4 essay questions (case studies), answer one page long for each, APA format. You may have to dx (not too hard) and then discuss the pathophys to the cellular or molecular level. If you haven't before, learn to use REFWORKS and Ref Grab-it (thru TWU library or the Houston Academy of Medicine – Texas Medical Center Library) to gather your sources. Pretty interesting, but can be a time suck. So, 5 grades altogether, but it takes a long time to get them back and little feedback is given. Hard not to stress, but you can judge your contributions compared to others and if you feel you are matching or exceeding theirs, you are probably doing well. Try to post comments to the DB early as many people come up with the same answers/sources to the 'points to ponder', and it gets more difficult to make an original comment. I got pretty bored reading repetitive comments

I'm curious about something...If you are accepted to a certain campus but a class you need is not offered at your campus a particular semester, can you take it through another campus, especially if its online?

TorresFNP2b, you and I did ours in reverse, I did my BSN at TWU Parkland Campus and FNP, ACNP at Tech.
