TWU in Denton NP Program OR UTA NP Program

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

Hi!

I have 2 years experience in Med-Surg, Telemetry and Oncology. I am single with no kids and work full time (three 12 hour shifts) NIGHT shift at a hospital on a TELE/ONC floor. I am wanting to become a Family Nurse Practitioner and work in state health dept clinic. Recently, I have applied for Texas Woman's University Family NP program in Denton and University of Texas at Arlington Family NP Program. I still haven't heard back but I am wanting to start school FALL 2011.

My questions are for former and current students of TWU and/or UTA in the FAMILY NP Program.

1. What do you like and dislike about the program?

2. What are their Family NP exam pass rates?

3. Did you work FULL TIME or PART TIME while attending school? or NOT work at all?

4. Would you encourage me (single, no kids) to work FULL TIME and go to school FULL-TIME?

5. Which is easier to juggle, working NIGHT SHIFT OR DAY SHIFT and attending school?

6. Did you have to go for an interview before acceptance into the NP program? What did it consist of?

7. Do you think my 2 years experience as a staff RN in a hospital is ENOUGH experience to go back for my masters FNP?

8. What made you decide on your school? What was the determining factor?

9. Do you have to find your own perceptors? How did you find them? How does the school assist you find perceptors, if you are not able to find one?

10. Was anyone able to find grants or scholarships to attend grad school?

11. How many classes were online and on campus? Because I will have to commute from Lewisville and Denton is closer to be than Arlington.

Thank you. LOL. Sorry so many questions. I appreciate any feedback!

HEY SHARP SUDDEN & SANUK!!

Glad to hear we are CLASSMATES!! are both of you guys taking ADVANCED PATHOPHYSIOLOGY?

I'm taking adv pathophysiology. I just go by what the adviser offer, so I suppose a lot of the new students are taking it as well. I heard that it is supposed to be a hard class to sort out students, but that is just rumor anyway. I'm reading the chapters right now to get a feel of it.

Hey guys....just read this post. If you don't mind me asking what was everyone's GPA in undergrad? I applied to UTA's FNP program this past Fall and got deferred b/c of my GPA. I only had a 3.3 with my BSN. I'm applying again to UTA and TWU for the Spring 2012 semester and I'm nervous I won't get in.

Has anyone gotten in with that low of a GPA? I have my Master's in Business from UTA (not that it's applicable) but I'm hoping it shows I can complete a Masters Program. I have 3 years experience as an RN on a very busy Labor & Delivery Unit. I'm nervous though that I'll be denied again :( Any advice, suggestions, ect.??? THANKS!!!

For all of you who got into TWU for the FNP program, did you guys all have at least above a 3.5 gpa for your BSN? Sorry for the additional post...I think the more I read, the more nervous I get that I won't get in. I'm not sure when they will notify everyone regarding acceptance for the spring?

TCUgirl. Best of luck in your applications! My undergrad GPA was 3.65. If you are worried, you should talk directly to admissions about their requirements, and what you can do to boost your application besides GPA.

I'm liking patho so far. The professor is so cute. That test was pretty hard, but if you studied, it wasn't too bad. 1 down 3 to go :))

Sanuk, I'm down for a drink after the next test, haha!!!

I got into TWU!! I will start in the Spring. How many hours are you all taking and what classes did you take your first semester. I guess I need to call my advisor Monday....just got my acceptance letter in the mail today, after a very LONG day at the hospital! I'm super excited!!!

How has y'alls first semester gone thus far??

How do you know so fast? I applied to the Houston campus and it still says awaiting department review.

@ hunnybaby24. I received the letter in the mail 10/21/11. I applied back in June so I do not know if that makes a difference and for the Dallas campus. You might try calling to see when you should receive a letter!

Sanuk, I'm down for a drink after the next test, haha!!!

I'm just now seeing this!! Could've used that drink. Yikes, I did better on the first test that so many people bombed than I did on the second. Are you in the Denton section or Dallas?

To someone else's question, since I'm in the bridge section, I take a mix of graduate and undergraduate (classes I would've taken if I had a BSN) and am really enjoying it. It's stressful to keep everything on track taking three classes and working, but the courses themselves are pretty interesting. This is the last semester with a senior level course and then I will be just doing graduate-level coursework.
