Duquesne online FNP - anyone?

Hi! I'm approaching my 1 year of experience (medical-oncology unit in a UPMC facility), and am starting to seriously research programs. I'm really interested (actually my first choice as of now) in Duquesne University's online FNP program. It just seems to fit what I'm looking for. But I've been scowering this website for several months, and nobody seems to have any personal experience with Duquesne for MSN programs.

I'm looking for any relevant advice, tips, or personal experience with their FNP program. I'm looking at their online program, but would love any insight at all. Aside from my BSN, I also hold a BS degree in biology (earned before my BSN). Both degrees were completed with a graduating GPA of about 3.2, so I hope that having 2 BS degrees helps to compensate for the sub-par GPAs (perhaps I'm being naive). Duquesne is a reputable institution, so I'm mostly concerned I'm reaching for something out of my reach.

There haven't been any recorded lectures to this point. Mostly read on your own and some powerpoints to view. Lots of discussion board posts.

As far as what to prepare for for May. The Summer course is extremely easy, basically gets you thinking about your role as an APN.

Classes are asynchronous so you can do your work at 2am if you want which is what I do since I work night shift.

Hi! I recently got accepted to the forensic program, but now I think I will switch to FNP in the spring. I was told I would have to apply. Do you know anyone at Duquesne who transfer specialty? Also did you have to take Historical and contemporary Foundations for Advanced Practice Nursing? if so how was it? that will be my first class.

The forensics students complain slot about their instructors. That historical course is a cake walk.

Hi adamRn79, I am preparing to submit my application for the forensic MSN program at Duquesne now, and would be curious to hear more about the experience some students are having. Do you know if things have improved? Comfort14, did you start the forensics program before deciding to switch? I could definitely use some guidance before I commit to a program ;) There is very little information on Forensic programs offering an MSN. Thanks!

Congrats! I also applied to Duquesne FNP for Spring 2018, waiting for the decision letter... My file was complete and ready for review as of 10/23. How long did you have to wait to get the acceptance email/letter?

Good Morning.

After my file was complete it took approximately 2-3 weeks for the committee to render a decision. I recieved a call of my acceptance and a letter in the mail a few days afterwards.Best of luck, this is exciting. Keep me posted!

Congratulations on your acceptance ! I have applied to several online FNP programs but recently came across Duquesne University. Do they assist with clinical placement or you are on your own to find NPs or MDs to complete clinical hours? What made you chose this program over other online programs? Thank you in advance : )

My apologies for the late response, my day was super busy. Anyhow, so you ask me. What is my reasoning for choosing Duquesne University over other universities? Well, there're many reasons I have chosen Duquesne University for my graduate studies. Some of the following reasons includes: the expert facility, flexibility, academics and financial support in addition to research opportunities. Duquesne University meet my needs as a student and I am looking forward to beginning my studies with them in the Spring. As far as clinical placement you are responsible for finding preceptors, however, they will assist if you are having trouble finding clinical placement. My best advice is to start networking in advance to ensure you will not run into any issues when that time comes. Overall I am excited with my choice and look forward to starting my studies.
