Liar Liar pants on fire!!!! - page 3

Why do these private duty home care companies lie so much? Before I filled out all of the required and extensive paperwork, I specifically asked ahead of time if they had the days and shifts that I... Read More

Absolutely. In and out burger here I come. I really am shocked with all the lies from these different nursing agencies. They just tell you whatever they think you want to hear.

I have a question. Am I right to be very suspicious of this? I am a new RN with no experience. I've had one agency call me repeatedly saying they need pediatric home care nurses in my area. The cases have trachs and g-tubes. I have never taken care of peds patients with trachs or g-tubes. The only peds I've taken care of are from clinicals and practicums. I explained this and was told that my 13 years experience as an LPN counts as RN experience. I know this isn't right....right? The guy also rubbed me wrong when he kept asking me over and over if I was sure I had no peds experience during the 13 years I worked as an LPN. I mean it came across to me like he wanted me to change my answer to yes.

Please tell I'm right to be suspicious of this. It's the only job offer I've been given since 2009.

    I'm confused....

Seems like all the agencies fight to go as low as Maxim with the pay lately. Makes one desire working at In'N'Out.
With essentially no benefits. My son being paid $9.00 with benefits as a cashier in a big box office supply store may be better off than I am.

Wildcat- there are agencies who will hire anybody. Because there are small nurse-owned agencies with a few employees and large chains like Maxim there is a huge variety in their standards, their orientation and training, their patient load and their relative truthfulness.

When I first went into private duty I was shocked to never be interviewed by a nurse prior to being sent out to a vent case. I made sure I knew what to do because of my own standards. So is it possible that they could be pressuring you to "say" you have the experience you don't? Yes it is.

This is all so shocking to me. All this has fortunately not been an issue for me. But from a management standpoint, I would never send a nurse or HHA out on a case if they needed orientation or training. It puts the patient, the nurse, and ME at risk. It would make me liable for anything that would/could happen. I don't want to explain to a child's mother why I put her child in danger if an incident happens nor do I want to explain that to a judge! Unbelievable!

Kyasi, your perspective is great because you are a nurse and you are in charge. That is how it should be. It makes sense. As I've mentioned before, I hope your nurses really appreciate you and your agency. The best agency I worked for was a little mom and pop one where a husband and wife owned and ran it. The husband did the business end, and the wife was a RN who did the care end. The wife, as a RN, understood healthcare and nurses.

The problem with many of these other agencies (Maxim!) is that men with sales/marketing degrees are in charge of everything. They have no grasp of healthcare or nurses. Thus you end up with unbelievable things going on!!!! Yes, there are supervisory nurses but the male recruiters and director with no understanding of healthcare call the shots.

There's no need to apply at In and Out burger. It's best to apply for a management job at McDonalds. I saw an ad this past Sunday for McDonalds offering $10-15 an hour!!!!! So yes you can make $15 an hour with Maxims/NurseCore
or $15 an hour at McDonalds.

But I like In'N'Out burgers better and you can't beat animal style. As a matter of fact, I had In'N'Out not one hour ago on my way home from work. I wish I had eaten a Double Double instead of just a regular burger.

Now I'm starving and In n' Out is closed. They always have the longest lines of cars here because their stuff is just that much better than everyone elses!
