Funny Mistakes

So the other night, I'm trying to put a diaper on this squirmy baby and I am having trouble getting it under him. The lights were dim. He goes left, he goes right, he flips, he turns, all in his sleep, mind you. So he finally settles I get it on him and pull up the tabs but I see I have the diaper backward, since there's no cutsie picture that you see on the front of diapers. RATS. So I flip it over, the baby starts squirming around again, and I finally get it straight and go to pull the tabs, but... no cutsie picture. I thought, maybe the diaper is a misprint and it didn't get a picture? I slide it out from under him and realize... with all the struggling to get this diaper on him, I was trying to put it on inside out.

What's your funny mistake?

Three months into my 1st extended care case as a new Lpn I was on nights and my quad 5year old was fussing and whining in bed. I took her out(being ever so carefull of her feed that still had over 150cc left to infuse I lay her across my chest with her head on my shoulder to rock her in the easy chair. She finally falls asleep and I decide not to disturb her untill the pump starts beeping "complete" . Comfy n cozy and hour later I take her off and lay her back in her bed only to find her MIC extension came off of feeding line and I had a huge abd size mess of congealed formula and half digested stomach contents on my shirt! It was so gross !!!!! I never felt it because the warmth of our bodies. And to make matters worse she didn't get her complete feed. I always keep extra scrubs in my car even 6 year later !

Also at least once a month I attempt to lift one if my clients out of her wheelchair realizing after the 2nd attempt......seat belt is still on. And someone ALWAYS ends up witnessing this to laugh at me lol

The other night I was feeding a client a bottle of breastmilk with the cap not screwed on properly (some sort of tube thing that reduces tummy gas wasn't aligned right) and there was a slow leak. I slowly ended up with breastmilk all over my shirt before I discovered the leak, and that's kinda gross when it's not one's own!

Putting a diaper on backwards is actually a pretty smart thing to do when your client is prone to removing his/her diaper. One of my clients is currently in that stage now! One morning I got home and found a text from her mom, "LOL! You must have been tired, the diaper is on backwards!" I told her it was on purpose so she couldn't find her tabs! Now they do it all the time w her, too! :D

One time I almost administered stoma powder nasally in place of saline spray. The bottles were exactly the same size and shape, stored right next to each other. Thank God I have a habit of shaking everything, because I noticed the powder felt different. That would have been a strange call to clinical, to report the stupidest med error.
