I decided to tell my supervisor that I will not work and with a particular client..... Is this grounds for firing ? I do not want to get into the details of the situation .

I don't think so, as long as you didn't abandon the patient, and there was adequate staff to change assignments with. Unless there is more of a back story to this that would affect things.

Well they said for weeks they would find a replacement for this particular account and its been a month and nothing has happened.

why haven't they found another nurse to cover this patient? is it patient that no one wants to cover? maybe thats why they are having trouble. i know alot of nurses who refuse to take care of a pt , and if they don't want that pt, they don't have to have the patient.

what have they said to you the reason for keeping you with this patient?

and no that is not grounds to be fired....

they can not find a replacement I am so burnout .....and they Hired 5 new people and not one of them have been trained with this client i just don't understand?????

then why don't they just assign someone else to the pt.. just switch you with someone else... did you ask what the hold up was? they hired 5 new people and havem't assigned anyone to this pt.?? that makes no sense... ask them why they keep putting you with this person??

They are taking advantage of you because they can. You need to put your foot down and tell them you flat out won't handle this patient again and why. You gave them a month and that's MORE than sufficient.

I think it really depends on the situation and the reason why you do not want to work with a patient. But since you can't be more specific, there isnt much else to say

What about putting in writing, detailing when the 1st request was for a replacement for this client and then doing a 2 week resignation from that particular client; again in writing. I would just ensure to cover my butt!

Good advice from this poster. Also are you in an "at will" state in regards to employment. If so it doesnt matter who, what or if, you and/or your employer can terminate employment at any time without explanation. With this in mind I would do as stated above and document your request.
